Police find makeshift bomb lab in Pleasant Hill apartment
PLEASANT HILL — Police here arrested a 27-year-old man and seized parts from a makeshift bomb lab during the service of a search warrant here Friday, authorities said.
The arrest followed a police investigation into “a series of vandalisms” that occurred in Clayton and Pleasant Hill, according to a police news release. After the 27-year-old man was identified as a suspect, detectives wrote a warrant to search his home, an apartment on the 300 block of Longbrook Way.
With help from the Walnut Creek police Bomb Squad, as well as the FBI and a county hazmat team, police found bomb making materials in the home. Numerous residents were evacuated during the incident, authorities said.
The news release doesn’t specify the nature of the vandalism police were investigating. Authorities say the suspect — whose name has not been released — was booked into the county jail on charges of making a destructive device.
