‘You can’t look at them and not know they’re not underage’: San Jose man charged with trading child porn online

SAN JOSE — A Bay Area man is facing federal charges of possessing child pornography, which prosecutors alleged he received and sent through various social media apps online.

Gregory Borboa, of San Jose, was charged Tuesday with possessing child pornography, which carries up to 20 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. The charges stem from a May 2020 search of his home, four months after Homeland Security Investigations received a tip of suspicious activity on one of his social media accounts.

The criminal complaint alleges Borboa was using Snapchat and Instagram accounts that referenced the Saturday Night Live character Father Guido Sarducci and that he followed “child models, child cheerleaders, and hashtags for kid models, tween girls, tween beachwear.” On May 18, 2020, the day before his home was searched, he allegedly sent videos of prepubescent girls being molested to another social media user and said, “oldest is 12.”

When Borboa’s home was searched, he allegedly confirmed ownership of the social media accounts, and that he’d viewed child pornography.

“You can’t look at them and not know they’re not underage,” he allegedly told a law enforcement investigator, according to the complaint.

Borboa’s first court date has not yet been set.
