Red Hood Joins The Black Lanterns in DC Zombie Cosplay
In DC Comics, the Bat-Family member known as Red Hood is a brutal hero that uses questionable tactics to exact justice, and when turned into an undead Black Lantern in an epic new cosplay, he becomes even more deadly!
Jason Todd has always had a particularly iconic costume in comics, and now getting a Black Lantern upgrade ensures he stays at the top of his fashion game. Acting as the second Robin in a long and continuing line of them, Jason Todd was always the odd one out both in terms of his short-lived career as Robin and his original controversial standing with fans. More violent, headstrong, and rough around the edges compared to Batman’s other sidekicks, Jason was killed off at the hands of the Joker only to be resurrected decades down the line as the anti-hero known as Red Hood; a part of Jason’s history that this specific cosplay leans into well.
Featured in the Green Lantern event titled Blackest Night, the Black Lanterns are an army of deceased DC heroes that come back from the dead with a vengeance. Powered by death and decay, these Lanterns are a bloodthirsty batch of baddies that line up well with Red Hood’s more ruthless tendencies, and Reddit user March-Scary nails the cosplay mash-up perfectly.
Made and worn by March-Scary, getting rid of the color red entirely from Jason’s costume not only immediately evokes the look of a Black Lantern, but the varying shades of black and grey replacing his usual crimson hues add a cool visual flair that breaks up the design in an extremely effective way. Also coloring Jason’s red helmet black, March-Scary adds the iconic Black Lantern logo overtop the bat-symbol on Jason’s chest, completing the look by not only giving Red Hood his dual guns to play with but a Black Lantern ring to wield as well.
Having been killed and brought back to life, March-Scary choosing to turn Jason into a Black Lantern isn’t just a cool new design but stays in line with how these Lanterns came about in the first place, despite Jason never becoming one in comics. And although it might not be a canon cosplay, the dark powers of a Black Lantern Red Hood makes fans wonder what constructs Jason might come up with, a blacked-out crowbar repurposed for his new zombie Lantern mindset most likely the top choice for a hero that’s still dealing with the traumatizing fallout of his murder to this very day.
So while it might be highly appropriate for Jason Todd to become a Black Lantern in comics, he has yet to become part of the undead army, making this cosplay the closest thing fans will get in seeing this wild design come to life. March-Scary’s Red Hood cosplay is an inspired take on an inspiring character, and when adding a Black Lantern twist to his already iconic look, the ever-changing Jason Todd wows even more than before.
