Pakistan will recognize Taliban after regional consensus
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Muneer Akram has said that his government will recognize the interim government of the Taliban after a regional consensus, DAWN reported.
The issue was raised by Akram in the UN simultaneously with the renewal of the UNAMA mandate for another one year.
The Pakistani media-DAWN- has also reported that recognition of the Taliban will also be one of the key issues in upcoming China’s meeting on Afghanistan.
The meeting is planned to be held in April getting together Foreign Ministers of Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan along with a delegation of the Taliban.
The Pakistani PR has attacked the resolution passed by UNSC on Afghanistan and added that the resolution did not mention the interim government in Afghanistan.
Muneer Akram has added that UNAMA’s mission should be coordinated with the Taliban.
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has not been recognized by any country in the world but Pakistan was among the only few countries that had recognized the Taliban’s government in the late 90s.
