Disney+ Removes Mention of Netflix in Daredevil & Other Defenders Shows

0

After the Netflix Marvel shows were regained by Disney and Marvel Studios, they were uploaded onto Disney+ with one small change. The Netflix Marvel shows include Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher. The move was came after the announcement of the Marvel shows leaving Netflix and later finding a new home on Disney+.

Every Marvel series that was originally created as part of a deal between Marvel Television and Netflix left the streaming service on March 1st and was added to Disney+ 15 days later. Now that the shows have a new home on Disney+, they've been rebranded as “The Defenders Saga”. This isn't the only change made to the Marvel Netflix shows, though, as viewers have spotted another small change made to the shows for their Disney+ premiere.

Now that the Marvel Netflix shows have been made available on Disney+, any mention of them originally being a Netflix Original Series has been removed from the opening credits. Screenshots of the credits for Daredevil and Jessica Jones (via The Direct) were posted in a side-by-side to highlight the changes, comparing how they originally appeared on Netflix and how they look now on Disney+. Even before the shows arrived on Disney+, there had been much apprehension given the darker and more mature nature of the Netflix shows compared to most MCU properties. There was concern the content could be edited down to a more family-friendly level and parents were worried about the content being too much for the Disney brand. To make everything easier, Disney+ now has parental controls in order to allow subscribers to control what certain users can watch. This also means the newly added Marvel shows can be viewed unedited and as originally intended, though now they're presented with a TV-MA rating.

Aside from the Netflix name removal, nothing else about The Defenders Saga on Disney+ has changed and that’s a good thing. The debut of Daredevil back in 2015 and its subsequent follow-ups ushered in a new era for superhero television, featuring the street-level heroes not typically seen in Marvel movies. These shows have a large fanbase as evidenced by the regular campaigns to continue their stories, and the arrival of Charlie Cox's Daredevil and Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin in the MCU proper is a sign Disney wants more, too. Since the shows arrived on Disney+, a reboot of Daredevil is reportedly in the works, meaning there could be more Defenders stories could be on the way. Whether or not Disney+ decides to revive any of The Defenders Saga shows, at least they all now have a new home and are staying intact.
