Upload: The 10 Best Characters, Ranked | ScreenRant

0

Amazon Prime's Upload left fans with a big cliffhanger at the end of season 2, with many hoping for a season 3. As Nathan's future remains hanging in the balance, a lot was revealed about what actually happened to him and just how badly the Luds want to end Lakeview and other digital afterlife places like it. Plus, technology continues to evolve with everything from digital babies to mind-reading innovation and even the monetization of dreams.

While Nathan and Nora remain at the center of the stories, other characters were able to shine in the second season, too. But who are the best characters in the entire series?

10 David Choak

David Choak seemed like the unassuming billionaire, Nathan's next-door neighbor who was simply enjoying his afterlife, eating all the exotic animals he wanted with a perfect virtual girlfriend by his side. He enjoyed the same lavish lifestyle in death he did when he was alive.

But it's discovered in season 2 that there are far more sinister things going on with David, the most intelligent character on Upload, including the bombshell revelation that he was partly behind Nathan's murder. His character is brought to life thanks to the performance of William B. Davis, known best as The Cigarette Smoking Man from The X-Files.

9 Mildred

Fans can't help but love Mildred, Ingrid's grandmother who, after passing, decided to be uploaded as her younger self. But because of the time when she was that age, her upload appears in black and white.

This doesn't bother the woman one bit, as she exudes confidence, sexual energy, and feminist ideals, despite being from a time when all those qualities weren't commonly on display by women. She makes people both uncomfortable and drawn to her. While she has the intensity of youth, she still has the wisdom of age, which means she is constantly regaling stories of her life to anyone who will listen.

8 Ivan Spelich

Ivan received a bigger role in season 2 as it's revealed that he is not only Nora's creepy co-worker, but also a secret member of the Luds. He starts to work with Nora and Nathan to help bring down the corporation and help them understand what really happened to Nathan.

His quirky personality is both lovable and repulsive, as the robot vacuum he programmed to come on to him and declaring to Nora that he prefers women who are lower than him intellectually was both incredibly off-putting. But when he puts on the suit and tie as an angel serving the residents of Lakeview, Ivan knows how to do his job well.

7 Nathan Brown

He might be the main character, but Nathan is one-dimensional, which makes him likable but not necessarily the most interesting character to watch on the show. Dealing with not only his premature death, but also his ex-girlfriend's supposed upload to be with him forever, and realizing that he was likely murdered, it's a lot for the young man to deal with.

Still, he manages to be likable thanks to his Peter Pan-ish antics in Lakeview, his sweetness towards Yang, his friend from 2Gig, and his desire to be there for Luke, despite how goofy his new-found best friend is. Plus, it's important not to forget that the reason Nathan was murdered in the first place was because he wanted to give up technology he co-developed to a company that was going to help the greater good, showing that he is a selfless person.

6 Ingrid Kannerman

Ingrid is one of the most fun characters to watch as she obsesses over Nathan and having him all to herself. She creates an elaborate plan to pretend she has uploaded for him and pulls it off convincingly.

Her desperate attempts to gain Nathan's favor, from trying to get a digital baby to throwing dinner parties and bestowing gifts upon him, only makes him want to be done with her even more. While Ingrid is portrayed as a privileged villain, however, there are times when fans both feel bad for and hate Ingrid from Upload. Fans recognize that everything she is doing comes from a place of abandonment and simply wanting to feel loved.

5 Lucy

Lucy is both the boss everyone wants to have and the one everyone tries to avoid. She is stern but sometimes fair, but also treats those who are on the bottom of the food chain poorly. If she likes someone, such as Aleesha, they can become her best friend.

What fans love about Lucy, however, is the fact that even though she seems serious and laser-focused on the business, she also has a soft spot for Luke. While her sneaking videos of him to watch is wrong, seeing her scramble to hide it is hilarious.

4 A.I. Guy

A.I. Guy is everyone in Lakeview, from the salesperson to the greeter, the elevator attendant, waiter, guest services, and more. If there's a job to do in Lakeview, chances are he does it. And when there aren't enough of him to go around, he simply duplicates.

This is all because he's not real, he's just an A.I. One of the things fans wanted to see in season 2 of Upload was A.I. Guy getting an update. Indeed, he not only got better, but also got a personality in season 2 when the real person behind his likeness, an actor named Boris Netherlands, was revealed. The A.I. Guy was the only entity that figured out Ingrid hadn't really uploaded, which means he could be getting smarter over time.

3 Luke

Luke would easily be the best character on the show if it weren't for the fact that sometimes he can be too much. A Vet, he was uploaded to Lakeview as part of his service agreement, which means he didn't come from money like many of the other wealthy residents.

His relationship with Aleesha is arguably the best on the show. His desperate attempts to make Nathan like him and become his new best friend along with his frat boy behavior, from ordering chicken nuggets at a fancy dinner party to having inappropriate dreams about his angel, are hilarious. But deep down, Luke is a good person who dealt with a lot in real life, including losing the use of legs that he regained once his consciousness arrived at Lakeview.

2 Nora Anthony

Fans love Nora because while she does her job, she also doesn't necessarily agree with every aspect of it. She has morals and will make sure the right thing is always done. Along with her strong moral compass, she is also fiercely smart and talented.

Nora has been in Nathan's corner from day one, which fans love. She is a great friend to Aleesha and has become an angel who everyone loves. Fans are always rooting for her, particularly her romance with Nathan. One of the things fans also love about Nora is the sweet relationship she has with her father.

1 Aleesha

Aleesha is by far the funniest character on Upload and the best overall. One of the things fans love about Lakeview on Upload is the one-to-one customer assistance from angels like Aleesha. Sure, Aleesha gets frustrated like everyone else when her clients make things difficult for her. While Luke was initially a nuisance, it seems the pair developed a strong, playful bond over time.

Aleesha's dialogue with Nora in the real world is always fresh and funny, and she and Luke make wonderful friends who have a love/hate relationship that fans can't get enough of. As Aleesha's star continues to rise at Horizon, fans can't wait to see what is in her professional future.
