The Boys Season 3 Trailer Content Flagged By Users Over 20 Million Times
The Boys brags that their season 3 trailer is so off-the-wall that it has been reported for content over 20 million times by viewers. The show, which is adapted from the comics series of the same name, is well known for its off-kilter sense of humor and irreverent, envelope-pushing style. It follows a group of crass, self-interested superheroes and the people trying to kill them - led by the character Billy Butcher, who doesn't trust superheroes but will likely be getting powers of his own in the upcoming season.
The show's ensemble of stars willing to go the distance includes Karl Urban, Laz Alonso, Jack Quaid, Jessie T. Usher, Antony Starr, and Chace Crawford. The Boys season 3 trailer was released last week, detailing much of the mayhem that is to come. The images in the trailer contain some of the bombastic violence the show is known for, especially when it comes to exploding bodies, but the centerpiece moment comes when Hughie's face is vomited on by Butcher.
On Twitter, the official account for The Boys posted a very special announcement. They reveal that audiences are "raving" that the new trailer is "deeply unhinged," saying "what the f*ck did we just watch?" They also included an infographic along with a video of Karl Urban sipping tea like the popular Kermit meme, showing that the trailer was (probably) watched by Seth Rogen, appreciated by Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi, and flagged for content over 20 million times, forcing their Twitter admin to review it 603 times. The Boys season 3 is setting up a huge Civil War-style climax, so they are clearly upping the ante in every way possible. In addition to the amped-up violence and crude humor, as well as upping Colby Minifie (Ashley Barrett) and Claudia Doumit (Victoria Neuman) to series regulars, the show has also added Supernatural's Jensen Ackles to the cast as Soldier Boy, a biting parody of the MCU's Captain America. The 8-episode season will begin airing on Prime Video on June 3, 2022, and although it hasn't been officially announced yet, Karl Urban more or less confirmed that The Boys season 4 will begin filming later this year.
The Boys is a show that thrives on the kind of controversy it has stirred up with this new trailer. While many superhero series would be wary of offending their audience in some way, this particular entry knows that shock and awe are its bread and butter. It seems difficult to believe that they could increase the amount of tomfoolery already present in their first two seasons, but they seem determined to forge ahead and find out if they can.
