Rapper Goonew dead at 24 update – Mom issues message to killers & reveals he was shot in the back and had jewelry stolen
POLICE have issued new details about the Maryland shooting that killed beloved DMV rapper Goonew.
The rapper’s heartbroken mother spoke out after local police publicly identified the person killed in Friday’s shooting as 24-year-old Markelle Morrow, also known by his rapper name Goonew.
“All he wanted to do is try to get his family out the hood,” Markell’s mother, Patrice Parker Morrow said to WUSA 9, surrounded by her grieving daughters.
“He had a heart bigger than his body, when they took him, they took me.”
Goonew’s family confirmed that he was fatally shot in the back after the killers stole his watch.
“They took his chain. They took his watch,” Parker Morrow said. “He gave it up and they still shot him in his back.”
Officers found Goonew suffering from gunshot wounds before 6pm Friday night in a parking lot in District Heights, Maryland.
Goonew’s mother told the outlet that her son was killed while he was on the way to give his sister a birthday gift.
The suspect that shot and killed the artist is still at large, according to the Prince George Police Department.
The devastated mother has a message for her son’s killers: “I forgive you,” she said.
“They took my son, hope they got what they wanted.”
PGPD is searching for anyone connected to Goonew’s death and is offering a $25,000 reward for information that could help lead to an arrest or conviction.
Police urge anyone with information about the shooting to call detectives at 301-516-2512.
