Malthe Jakobsen Breaks Sportscar Duck At Sebring
The win for the #33 Sean Creech Motorsport Ligier JS P320 in the LMP3 class of the 2022 12 Hours of Sebring saw a 25th career IMSA win for Joao Barbosa, and a third class win at the Sebring 12 Hours for the Portuguese legend but it was a first IMSA and Sebring win for both Gentleman racer Lance Willsey and for Danish teenager Malthe Jakobsen.
That wasn’t the only significant breakthrough for the young Dane though –
“It’s my first win in sports cars, I have only won in single seaters before. So it’s a massive race to win. I’m delighted!”
And that win did not come easily, with Garrett Grist chasing hard to the checkered flag in the Jr III Ligier:
“After I finished the race I got a fuel light,” said Jakobsen. “I think I had like maybe eight litres left or something like that.
“I got told that the gap was only 16 seconds and that he had tyres that were seven laps newer than mine because he pitted later. So I had to push.”
Joao Barbosa was impressed with his young team-mate too:
“I think you’re going to write a lot about him in the future. He did a phenomenal job at Daytona and he was very impressive here as well. He was very quick and really very mature in his driving as well. Not just the speed, but the whole approach and his reaction to pressure – he did a phenomenal job for sure.
