MLB Rumors: Red Sox Agree To Six-Year Deal With Infielder Trevor Story

If Red Sox fans were wondering when they would add the right-handed bat the team needs, well, they can stop now.

Boston on Sunday reached an agreement with free agent Trevor Story, per multiple reports.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale was first to report the news before it was confirmed by MLB analyst Jim Bowden and The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

Nightengale and Rosenthal reported the deal is worth $140 million over six years.

The New York Post’s Joel Sherman also offered additional details:

Story spent the first six years of his Major League Baseball career with the Colorado Rockies.

The Red Sox had been linked to Story of late, as were the New York Yankees and Houston Astros, among others, but it was Boston that ultimately won the sweepstakes.

Story is a shortstop, but he’s expected to play second base alongside Xander Bogaerts — who sounds like someone who doesn’t want to leave his position — in the middle of Boston’s infield.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said last week he believed more moves were coming, and that clearly foreshadowed what happened Sunday morning.
