Power Book IV: Force - The 10 Main Characters, Ranked By Bravery
Warning: This article contains spoilers for Power Book IV: Force.
Very rare in the TV landscape do shows get to have three spin-offs, but such is the case with the Starz crime drama Power. Fans of the fictional universe are currently enjoying the third spinoff, Power Book IV: Force, which sees Tommy Egan relocate to Chicago in order to build a new criminal empire.
So far, the tone of Force has been similar to that of the original show. Since the spin-off also focuses on the drug trade, there's plenty of violence as well as the clashing of egos. And in Chicago's survival-of-the-fittest underground, the players are required to be courageous at all times. But who is brave and who isn't?
10 Darnell "D-Mac" McDowell
D-Mac is revealed to be Gibbs' son, who he sired before he accepted his identity as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. He hates his father for allegedly abandoning him, unaware that it's his mother that took him away.
D-Mac is depicted as a loyal soldier for the Chicago Brothers Incorporated (CBI). However, he isn't courageous enough to confront his father and get the answers he seeks. Instead, he engages in cowardly attacks like vandalizing Gibbs' nightclub. And instead of finding out what their meeting was about, he baffled viewers by freaking out when he sees Gibbs with Tommy. He follows this up with the stranger choice of his job as a CBI enforcer.
9 Jenard Sampson
Jenard serves as the leader of the CBI for 15 years but is forced to hand over power when his brother gets paroled. After losing his seat, he begins plotting to get it back.
Jenard's brother, Diamond, is shown to be smarter and tougher (he easily wins a fight between the two), but the interim leader still sees it fit to antagonize him on a regular basis. Strangely, Jenard doesn't quite confront those he believes to be the biggest threat to the organization. When Diamond begins working with Tommy, Jenard chooses to pick fights with his brother instead of giving the New York-bred gangster a piece of his mind.
8 Victor Flynn
The son of Chicago's biggest mobster hates the fact that his father has mapped out his life for him. He, therefore, finds ways to defy him, including making his own deals and dating women his father doesn't approve of.
Vic risks destroying family relations and possibly messing up his own inheritance by deciding to continue his relationship with Gloria. Like his sister, he also has no doubts about doing business with people he knows so little about. However, Vic is shown to be the least intelligent in the family, operating on emotions rather than logic.
7 Walter Flynn
After portraying Chibs—one of the smartest Sons Of Anarchy characters—for years, Tommy Flanagan returns as the leader of the Irish mob in Chicago. His character prefers the traditional methods of running a criminal outfit, but due to the changes brought about by new-age gangsters, he becomes disgruntled.
Walter's failing health doesn't make him second guess himself when dealing with adversaries. In one of the show's most intense scenes, he walks into a restaurant and murders Mirkovic's henchmen. However, the mobster appears to be fearful of certain individuals, specifically Tommy and his own children. He doesn't do anything to Tommy for his refusal to leave Chicago as instructed. His refusal to punish his own children for defying him also makes him look cowardly.
6 JP Gibbs
JP Gibbs is unveiled as Tommy's half-brother early in the series. After the two get acquainted, they vow to look out for each other.
No threat or person makes Gibbs sweat. He bluntly informs the homophobic Tommy that he is a member of the LGBTQ+ community and suggests that he can leave if he has a problem with that. Additionally, Gibbs isn't even shaken when there is a shooting at his club, telling Tommy that it's quite normal.
5 Liliana
Having fled from New York after the first season of Power, Liliana is now settled in Chicago. There, she and Tommy bump into each other and become friends.
Despite being aware of Tommy's reputation, Liliana still isn't afraid to target him and try to kill him after wrongfully believing he has come to the city to eliminate her. She doesn't think twice about stealing cocaine from powerful dealers either, yet she is aware of the obvious consequences. Additionally, Lilian can defend herself quite well. This is best seen when she murders one of the people who had kidnapped her.
4 Claudia Flynn
The daughter of Walter Flynn is shown to be as formidable as her dad. By pushing an innovative type of narcotics known as Dahlia together with Tommy, she greatly contributes to making Force one of the best shows about the drug trade.
By choosing to work with a dealer she has only known for a short while, Claudia paints herself as a risk-taker. Additionally, she risks her father's wrath by hiding her dealings from him. That she continues to keep things secret, knowing very well that Walter has a Number 2 that is quite snoopy, is indeed brave.
3 Gloria
The bar owner starts out as Tommy's love interest before falling for Victor Flynn. Despite threats from Walter, she continues to date Victor.
Gloria's former career as a marine officer puts a stamp on her courage. Defying threats from the city's biggest crime boss and continuing to date his son is indeed courageous. Moreover, Gloria is never intimidated by the numerous criminals that keep stopping by her bar. And she can thrive in gunfights too, proven by how easily she fends off attackers targeting her and Victor, which makes her appearances reminiscent of some of the best episodes of the original run of Power.
2 David "Diamond" Sampson
Prior to his imprisonment, Diamond served as the leader of the Chicago Brothers Incorporated (CBI). After his release, he begins feuding with his brother over the leadership of the crew.
It takes some courage to jump back into crime after serving a 15-year sentence. By doing so, Diamond risks going back to the same place where he lost many of his adult years. Diamond also puts himself in direct conflict with his brother when he demands to be boss once again after being away for close to two decades. The fact that his brother has more loyal men than him doesn't scare him, and he still goes on to do things his way.
1 Tommy Egan
After the death of his business partner Ghost, Tommy—one of the most likable Power characters—decides to settle in Chicago. There, he resumes his drug-dealing ways and forms plenty of partnerships.
Tommy's fearlessness is never put into doubt. Right from the pilot episode, he reminds viewers just how much of a nuisance he can be by refusing to leave the city when the Flynn family threatens him. His bravery is also seen during the various gun battles he engages in. Tommy doesn't hesitate to conquer new territories either, even when it puts him in danger.
