The Color Purple Movie Musical BTS Image Confirms Filming Has Started
The director of the upcoming musical remake of The Color Purple confirms that filming has started on the film. The original movie, directed by Steven Spielberg, was released in 1985 and featured Danny Glover, Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey in an adaptation of the historical novel by Alice Walker. The gripping story of the experiences of a southern black woman in the early 1900s resonated with audiences, was nominated for 11 Oscars, and led to a popular broadway musical in 2005.
The new remake, which is set for release in 2023, is based on the Color Purple stage musical, and comes from Black is King director Blitz Bazawule. Bazawule has now confirmed that photography has started on the upcoming film. In a picture posted to Twitter, the director shows off the artsy clapboard for the production- which is prepped for the first take of scene 42.
