Tottenham transfer still on as Conte’s side rival West Ham for new England U21 star

Tottenham are reportedly still in the mix to sign Keane Lewis-Potter from Hull City after failing to complete a deal in the January transfer window.

According to journalist Alasdair Gold, Tottenham had been in talks with Hull over the attacker’s availability. They were also in contact with Lewis-Potter’s agent, with a deal set to cost £12million.

Antonio Conte’s side ultimately focused on other targets. They brought in Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus, showing Conte’s preference for improvement in the short-term.

However, Spurs may come back for Lewis-Potter in the future to revamp their forward line.

The 21-year-old is versatile. He mainly operates at left wing but can also play as a centre-forward or attacking midfielder if required.

The Daily Mail provide an update on Lewis-Potter’s situation. They claim Spurs, West Ham and Brentford are the main clubs hoping to land him.

Brentford came closest to agreeing a January transfer but, like Spurs, they could not get it over the line.

Lewis-Potter could follow West Ham ace

West Ham believe Lewis-Potter has the ability to become the next Jarrod Bowen. He left Hull for east London in January 2020 and has gone on to become a Premier League star.

Lewis-Potter has managed nine goals and four assists in 41 matches this season. That record has seen him earn a maiden England U21 call-up.

The Hull-born ace could feature alongside Harvey Elliott and Jacob Ramsey in upcoming matches against Andorra and Albania.

The Daily Mail also conduct an interview with Lewis-Potter about how he got into the Hull academy.

“I was about eight or nine when Hull first approached me. I was playing Sunday league,” the forward said.

“I went on trial but for me, back then, it was a bit full on. I preferred to just play with my mates and enjoy it. I’m thankful they came back later and it got a bit more serious then.

Forward had to play catch-up

“It did feel a bit like I was a bit behind everyone in terms of the tactical and technical side. I don’t regret joining when I did [at 14]. It was the right time for me and thankfully I’ve come all this way.”

When asked about his links with the likes of Spurs and West Ham, Lewis-Potter replied: “Definitely flattering. But it is about concentrating on my football at Hull at the minute and see where that can take me.

“You look in the past and see players like Mason Mount, Ben White and many more who played in the Championship and gone to the Premier League.

“Jarrod started there and is at West Ham. There are so many talented lads in the EFL who will make that step up.”
