Pacific Rim: The Black Season 2 Images Reveal First Look

0

Netflix has released a block of first-look images from Pacific Rim: The Black season 2, which will be the final season of the series. The animated series is the latest entry in the Pacific Rim universe, which began with Guillermo del Toro's original 2013 film that introduced the world of the Kaiju (giant monsters who emerge from the sea along the titular Pacific Rim) and the Jaegers (giant robot warriors who are operated by pairs of soldiers who share a strong mental bond). That film was followed in 2018 by the sequel Pacific Rim: Uprising, directed by Steven S. DeKnight.

Although Pacific Rim 3 is still nowhere in sight, Netflix aired the first season of Pacific Rim: The Black in 2021. The anime series, which is an American and Japanese co-production, takes place many years after the events of Uprising. It follows two siblings who pilot an abandoned Jaeger called Atlas Destroyer across the desolate landscape of Australia, which has been overrun by Kaiju.

Today, Netflix just unveiled four first-look photos from Pacific Rim: The Black season 2. The images show details of where some of the lead characters find themselves in this new season, as well as introducing the cult known as Sisters of the Kaiju and showing what appears to be a kaiju and a jaeger working together. Netflix also announced that the season, which is the epic conclusion of Pacific Rim: The Black, will air on the platform on April 19, 2022. Check out the full-size images below:

Although Pacific Rim: The Black is ending, there is still plenty of story yet to be told. The siblings Taylor (Calum Worthy) and Hayley (Gideon Adlon) have two new companions: Mei (Victoria Grace), a young assassin, and bOy (Ben Diskin), who is half human, half kaiju. On their journey to Sydney, they must face off against the dangerous cult Sisters of the Kaiju and their High Priestess. They fervently believe that bOy is their Messiah, and will stop at nothing to have him to themselves.

Pacific Rim: The Black seems to have continued the franchise tradition of not quite mustering the strength to last beyond two entries. Although the franchise certainly has its fervent fans, it seems to have continuously failed to strike a major chord with the mainstream. Despite this disappointing reception, those who love the series will certainly relish the opportunity to spend more time in this universe, especially as the anime series has been able to expand the world even further, presenting the characters with Kaiju and Jaegers that would have broken the budget of a live-action spectacle.
