Elden Ring's Most Messed Up Armor Set Turns You Into Leatherface
Elden Ring has an armor set that essentially turns the player in Leatherface, the iconic slasher film villain from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The Godskin Apostle set appears to be exactly what it sounds like - garb crafted from the skin of a god. The gruesome clothes match the atmosphere and gory horror of Elden Ring, but elicit a stomach-turning response similar to that from seeing Leatherface don a fresh skin mask.
The body horror of Elden Ring surpasses that of any act committed by Leatherface in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre series. The horror film legend first debuted in the original The Texas Chain Saw Massacre from 1974, but appears as a primary character in every sequel, prequel, and reboot the series has had thus far. Leatherface is largely based on the repulsive crimes committed by Ed Gein, a notorious murderer and body snatcher active in the 1950s known for crafting clothes and household objects from human skin and bones.
The Godskin Apostles in Elden Ring appear to have done much the same with their victims. The armor set - most noticeably the hood - contains what looks like the faces of the gods the material was removed from. The exact lore surrounding the Godskin Apostles is unclear. They once served Destined Death, another name for the Rune of Death removed from the Elden Ring by Queen Marika the Eternal, according to the Godskin Apostle set item descriptions. Marika gave Destined Death to Maliketh for safe-keeping, who is noted as the one who defeated the Godskin Apostles, implying the apostles were slaying gods before the time of the Golden Order.
Players hoping to drape their Tarnished in the skin of a god will need to head to the northern edges of Caelid, in the sub-region known as Greyoll's Dragonbarrow. A Godskin Apostle can be found in the basement of the Divine Tower of Caelid - killing them will reward the player with the entire Godskin Apostle set. Most players will head to this Divine Tower after killing Starscourge Radahn, whose Great Rune needs to be activated at the top of the tower. Players will have to carefully jump down a series of platforms to reach the bottom of the tower's interior, where the Godskin Apostle is one of Elden Ring's many repeated boss fights.
Subsequent fights against Godskin Apostles, which take place in locations further in the game, reward players with more of their gruesome tools. The Godskin Peeler is a twinblade designed to do exactly what its name suggests, and the description of the Godskin Swaddling Cloth removes any doubt as to how the apostles created their clothes: "Sacred cloth of the Godskin Apostles, made from supple skin sewn together." Although the Godskin Apostles are swaddled in the skin of gods as newborns, the player just has to hunt down these Elden Ring bosses to complete their Leatherface cosplay.
