Supernatural: 10 Hidden Details In The Series That Redditors Found
American dark-fantasy drama series Supernatural concluded with its 15th and final season in November of 2020. The series was well-received with a rating of 8.6/10 on IMDb and a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and the series gained quite the following from 2005 - 2020. With the news of a new spin-off prequel series called The Winchesters in development, fans are looking back at the series that started it all.
With 15 seasons and 327 episodes, there are bound to be numerous hidden details for fans to find. Supernatural fans took to Reddit to discuss their favorite hidden details in the series, including these 10.
10 Crowley's Phone Number
Starting out with the easier-to-spot hidden detail,Redditor SuchDogeBoi spotted that the King of Hell "Crowley's phone number is 666." While Crowley is first seen using teleportation, the blood goblet, or summoning to communicate he is later depicted talking on the phone with the Winchesters and demons.
This detail is easier to spot than others but is still a detail that isn't addressed directly but rather left for the audience to find or find when Crowley makes a call to the Winchesters. Redditor SuchDogeBoi spotted this detail and noted that it was one of the "funny little details" they have picked up on throughout the series.
9 Castiel's Hand Print
When Castiel is first introduced to Supernatural in season 4, his handprint was shown branded to Dean's arm due to Castiel pulling Dean out of hell. Redditor kh-38 found that later in Season 15 Castiel "leaves a bloody hand imprint on Dean's arm in the exact place where Dean had a brand from when Cas gripped him to "raise him from perdition" in season 4."
This detail was harder to notice and many people didn't think twice about it, including the writers as it was later made known that this detail was brought up by actor Misha Collins, who portrays Castiel.
8 Not A fan Of Folk
It's no secret that Dean is a classic rock lover and rejects really any other music genre. Redditor kh-38 noted that "when Dean finally got his car back and he saw that Sam has changed the music to a country-sounding song," he is unsurprisingly displeased with the genre choice.
The displeasure in the music choice isn't the detail Redditor kh-38 noticed about the scene. The singer of the folk song is Jason Manns a friend of Jensen Ackles, who portrays Dean. Kh-38 noted that Jason Manns actually "helped Jensen create/produce his first music CD." Apparently, Jensen and Dean have different tastes in music.
7 Castiel's Alias'
This detail is less hidden than the others, but it is nonetheless a funny little detail. Sam and Dean often use rock alias when pretending to be agents, and Redditor kh-38 points out that "Castiel tries to also use rock aliases but he tends to use women."
While Agent Beyoncé isn't the best alias, the detail is a fun one. Castiel is an angel and as such has a hard time fitting in on earth. He often doesn't understand pop culture references and takes the Winchesters' sarcasm too seriously. He hears that Sam and Dean use rock aliases and tries it himself, but hilariously misses the mark.
6 Walking Dead Reference
The Walking Dead fans will recognize Sam and Dean's father John Winchester, who is portrayed by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, as Negan Smith. In season 12 episode 15 Dean finds a familiar and unique weapon.
Redditor Xil_Jam333 noted that Dean was "carrying a barbed wire bat and he said 'dad used to love this thing.'" Supernatural fans who are not also fans of The Walking Dead might not catch the direct reference to Negan Smith's iconic weapon of choice.
5 Alternate Reality Names
In season 4 episode 12 there is a detail that is a little harder to notice pertaining to Sam and Dean's names. In an alternate reality, and one of Sam's best episodes, the brothers are given different last names that have a sneaky connection to their actual last name.
Redditor Puzzleheaded-Pea3630 noticed that in this episode "the brothers are named Dean Smith and Sam Wesson," and together they are "Smith and Wesson instead of Winchester." This little gun detail is something that goes unnoticed by most, but it couldn't slip by fans like Puzzleheaded-Pea3630.
4 Mom's Words With Friends Handle
Dean is seen playing Words With Friends against his mother Mary in season 12 episode 7. That in itself is not the hidden detail user Garlicknottodaysatan noticed about this scene. It was Mary's Words With Friends handle that stuck out.
Garlicknottodaysatan noted that "Mary's Words with Friends handle is "mothermary1983" which is an insane choice" because 1983 is the year she was killed originally. Fellow Redditor Xil_Jam333 commented that "this is also sam's birth year," but while this is a good point, Mary has two sons so putting one son's birth year over the other seems a bit off.
3 House of Wax
In season 5 episode 5, Paris Hilton guest stars as a forest god taking the form of famous icons and killing their fans. In the episode, Dean makes a subtle quip, saying he's never seen the 2005 remake of House of Wax.
This detail is meant to subtly poke fun at Jared Padalecki, who portrays Sam. Redditor godlyhk75 points out that "Jared Padalecki acted in [the 2005 remake of House of Wax] alongside Paris Hilton." The slasher film was not well-received by critics or audiences, making it perfect material for a clever joke.
2 100th And 200th Episode
The 100th episode, which is season 5 episode 18, and the 200th episode, which is season 10 episode 5, have a clever little detail in common. It is easy to miss the hidden details in these episodes, but fans on Reddit were able to spot them.
Redditor ohheyitslaila found that "in the 100th and 200th episodes of the show, the number on the motel rooms are 100 and 200." With how brief the number on the motel door is shown, it is easy to miss this detail in both episodes, but some Supernatural fans noticed this subtle detail.
1 Gilmore Girls
In season 2 episode 18, Dean and Sam are called to Hollywood to investigate some strange deaths on a horror movie set. Redditor NotDogdamnit noted that in one of the scenes "they're riding a golf cart and the guide says 'There's the set of Gilmore Girls. If we're lucky, maybe we'll see one of the stars."
This is a hidden detail for Gilmore Girls fans as those who haven't seen the comedy-drama series wouldn't think much of this scene or Sam's obvious discomfort at the mention of Gilmore Girls. This is another detail meant to poke fun at Jared Padalecki, who portrays Dean Forester in Gilmore Girls.
