Arrowverse's Two-Face Origin Story Confirmed For Gotham Knights TV Show
As Supernatural star Misha Collins joins Gotham Knights as Harvey Dent, character details reveal the DC drama will explore Two-Face's origin story. Every year, The CW continues to expand its Arrowverse/DC TV line-up with more heroes and villains making the jump from panel to screen. As some of the other DC TV shows are starting to get closer to the finish line, the network is wasting no time trying to find the next set of shows to fill the void. For this year's pilot season, The CW is developing a Gotham Knights series from the writers/producers of Batwoman. The one-hour drama won't have any ties to Batwoman nor is it connected to the upcoming video game of the same name.
The upcoming pilot will focus on a Gotham City that has lost its Dark Knight as Batman has been deceased for some time in this world. Bruce Wayne's adoptive son will form unlikely alliances with other children of various Batman villains that together become the Gotham Knights. Batwoman's Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux, and Natalie Abrams are attached as writers and executive producers, with Gotham director/producer Danny Cannon set to helm the series premiere. As production is getting ready to start, Collins, who is best known as playing the angel Castiel on Supernatural, just boarded the project as Harvey Dent.
Following Collins sharing the official news that he is joining the CW drama, the network has revealed an official character description, via Variety, to give fans an idea of Gotham Knights' take on Two-Face. While Collins' iteration will start out as the classic District Attorney, The CW promises that Gotham Knights will see Harvey evolve into his comic book counterpart, sharing the following:
“Dashing, with a swagger, Harvey Dent is Gotham’s charismatic, hard-charging District Attorney. With a rigid sense of right and wrong, Harvey’s idealism and single-minded quest for justice will ironically and tragically transform him into one of Gotham’s most feared supervillains, Two-Face.”
Gotham Knights will be the latest live-action DC project to feature Harvey in a major role since Aaron Eckhart’s Two-Face in The Dark Knight. While Gotham did feature a younger incarnation, as played by Nicholas D'Agosto, Harvey had a small arc before the show completely forgot about the character in later seasons. Interestingly enough, Batwoman season 1 name-dropped Harvey as still being Gotham City's D.A., confirming that their version had yet to become Two-Face on Earth-Prime. Since Bruce is dead in the Gotham Knights pilot, this is obviously taking place on another Earth in the larger Multiverse.
It wouldn't be shocking if Gotham Knights season 1 concludes with Harvey getting acidic chemicals thrown at him by Sal Maroni, especially if they bring that character in early on. The first season could lay the groundwork that leads to the iconic moment from the comics where Sal goes after Harvey. If Gotham Knights go to series, it will join the recently renewed Arrowverse shows The Flash and Superman & Lois for the 2022-2023 TV season. As Gotham Knights is almost done with casting and prepping to shoot in Toronto, Canada, fans will soon learn even more about what the potential DC TV series will look like on The CW.
