Star Wars Almost Recruited Yoda Into Crimson Dawn | Screen Rant
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Star Wars: Crimson Reign #3
As revealed in the latest issue of Star Wars: Crimson Reign, the organization known as Crimson Dawn tried to recruit Yoda to their cause. While Crimson Dawn used to be no more than a crime syndicate created by the former Sith lord Maul, the post-Empire Strikes Backs era has revealed that its new leadership under Qi'ra led to far greater aspirations for the good of the galaxy. As such, Qi'ra believed Yoda to be the greatest asset the Dawn could have to help their plans succeed.
Star Wars' new Crimson Reign series takes place after the events of Empire Strikes Back as well as the War of the Bounty Hunters crossover event which saw Crimson Dawn's return to the galaxy under Lady Qi'ra. Following their public return to the galaxy as a well-connected syndicate, Qi'ra has revealed Crimson Dawn's true motivations and mission in Crimson Reign: to restore the balance of power in the galaxy by taking out the Sith lords ruling the Empire. As such, Qi'ra knows she's going to need all the help she can get from like-minded allies big and small.
Now, Crimson Reign #3 reveals how the Archivist (Madelin Sun) joined Qi'ra's inner circle amongst Crimson Dawn. Being given a mission to find Jedi Grandmaster Yoda, Sun did some serious research, eventually tracking down one of the few people who knew about Yoda's whereabouts following his exile at the end of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. Making her way to Dagobah, the slightly Force-sensitive scholar with a focus on the dark side was guided by an unseen hand to the same cave Luke Skywalker entered during his training, receiving a vision from the Force. As such, Sun discovered core truths about herself and her relationship with the Force on a personal level, eventually deciding to return to Crimson Dawn without Yoda (seeing as how the Jedi had helped open her eyes to what she could be via the light side of the Force).
While Yoda was located by Sun on Dagobah, he was not met by the Crimson Dawn agent directly. Instead, Yoda took the opportunity to open the Archivist's eyes ahead of her acceptance into the syndicate, teaching her as the cave helped her realize she could and should be more focused on the light than ever before to truly be happy and at peace. As such, Sun returned to Qi'ra, having chosen to lie and say that Yoda was dead so Crimson Dawn's search would be called off. That being said, one still has to wonder how the Star Wars timeline would have been altered had Yoda been successfully recruited into Crimson Dawn.
Seeing as how Crimson Dawn is utilizing any means necessary to achieve their goals in this new series (no matter how dark), it makes sense why Yoda didn't join their criminal enterprise. Furthermore, the Jedi survivor has already put his faith in Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa during this time, the children of Darth Vader whom he believed would end the Sith and restore the galaxy with a renewed hope (which they did). Nevertheless, Crimson Reign #3 is an incredibly dynamic issue exploring the nature of the Force from the perspective of a non-Jedi or Sith. Combined with the significant reveal that a criminal syndicate with insanely big goals wanted Yoda to join their ranks, it's certainly one of Star Wars' more interesting comics.
