Moon Knight Director Responds To Whether Oscar Isaac Will Get MCU Film

0

Moon Knight director Mohamed Diab is uncertain about Oscar Isaac's hero getting a Marvel Cinematic Universe film in the future but is hopeful. The award-winning Egyptian writer/director is leading the directing team for the upcoming Disney+ series along with The Endless and Synchronic duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, with Diab also executive producing alongside head writer Jeremy Slater, Isaac, Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Grant Curtis and Brad Winderbaum. Isaac is leading the cast of Moon Knight in the titular role with Ethan Hawke starring as the villainous Arthur Harrow, May Calamawy as Layla, Gaspard Ulliel as Midnight Man and F. Murray Abraham as Khonshu.

Moon Knight centers on Steven Grant, a mild-mannered London gift shop employee suffering from a sleep disorder and blackouts who comes to learn his real identity is that of Marc Spector, a mercenary living with dissociative identity disorder. Spector and his other identities, including the street-level detective Mr. Knight, come under the crosshairs of cult leader Arthur Harrow in his quest to cleanse the world, seeing Marc and the Egyptian moon god Khonshu as an obstacle for his goal. Marc must learn to control his Moon Knight abilities in order to save the world while also coming to terms with his various identities.

Ahead of the show's premiere, director Mohamed Diab caught up with GamesRadar+ to discuss Moon Knight. When asked about the character's future, Diab reveals he is uncertain that Isaac's hero will get an MCU film and says it's all in the hands of the studio. See what Diab shared below:

"I dream and wish for a film. But with Marvel, the way they play it, it's not like you graduate into a film. You can go into a film and come to a TV show and go back."

It may not come as much of a surprise that Diab is keeping Moon Knight's future close to the chest before the show has even premiered, but his uncertainty of an MCU film may come as a bit of a disappointment to some. That being said, it wouldn't be the first time the character has struggled to make his way to any screen, let alone the big one. Moon Knight was originally planned to be introduced in the canceled Blade: The Series season 2 to lead into a spinoff series and later had a series from Marvel and No Equal Entertainment scrapped and James Gunn pitching a Moon Knight movie to Marvel but having no time to work on it due to his busy schedule with the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

As Diab notes, the possibility of a Moon Knight MCU film is largely in the studio's hands as they plot out future phases of the franchise and Isaac's character. That being said, the star and director have both remained very confident in Moon Knight's MCU future and teased the possibility of his going on for another decade and rivaling Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man in terms of character study and growth. Only time will tell what the future may hold when Moon Knight premieres on Disney+ on March 30.
