Fortnite Adds Olympic Gold Medal Snowboarder Chloe Kim
Chloe Kim, an Olympic gold medal snowboarder, will be the newest addition to Fortnite. The popular battle royale shooter from Epic Games is still doing everything it can to keep players interested. From introducing new game modes to adding new skins, and even changing up some of its core mechanics, Fortnite is always looking for new ways for players to enjoy the game.
The free-to-play game makes most of its money from the in-game store, which sells numerous cosmetic items like gliders, back bling, pickaxes, and skins. Many of the skins available in Fortnite over the past few years have been characters from TV shows and movies, as well as heroes and villains from DC Comics and Marvel, such as Fortnite's recent Doctor Strange skin. Every so often though, Epic Games likes to include some celebrity figures like Travis Scott or Neymar Jr, and now the developer has introduced an Olympian to the Battle Bus.
American snowboarder and two-time gold medal winner Chloe Kim will be the next addition into Fortnite's ever-growing list of character skins. As reported by GameSpot, the Winter Olympics champion will be available to purchase from Fortnite's item shop from March 26. There will be a full cosmetics bundle containing the skin, a loading screen, a glider, a pickaxe, an emote, and a back bling, with each of these items being available to purchase separately as well. The skin also comes in four different variations: Back to Back, Pink Poppies, Deep Freeze, and a reactive Icy Infusion skin that transitions from Pink Poppies into Deep Freeze while the player racks up more eliminations.
For a chance to win the skin and the Sub-Zero Flight back bling early, Fortnite players can take part in the Chloe Kim Cup, which is a duos tournament. The tournament goes live on March 24 and requires players to compete in ten duos matches in a three-hour window. Thanks to Epic Games' and Xbox's campaign to donate money to Ukrainian relief efforts, all proceeds from the Chloe Kim cosmetics bundle and any other purchases made on Fortnite before April 3rd will go towards this cause.
Fortnite has changed a great deal over the years with its ever-changing world and its growing list of character skins. Fortnite's Chapter 3 is into its second season now and with it comes the biggest change yet as Epic Games experiments with removing the iconic building mechanic that made the game so recognizable. With such a drastic change to one of the game's core features, it remains to be seen whether players will enjoy this new style of play. It should be noted that since the buttons relating to building have not been removed, it's likely that Fortnite's decision to remove building elements is a temporary one. Time will tell what the future of Fortnite has in store.
