Ethan Hawke Explains Why He's Excited For People to See Moon Knight

0

Ethan Hawke, who is set to play the primary antagonist in Moon Knight, explains why he’s so excited for audiences to see the show. Moon Knight is set to be the next MCU show to hit Disney+ when it debuts on the streaming service on March 30th. The series will be led by Oscar Isaac, who makes his MCU debut as Marc Spector, while Hawke will take on the role of the cult leader Arthur Harrow.

The show will explore Marc Spector’s dissociative identity disorder, which causes him to unknowingly shift between various alters (including a museum gift shop attendant Steven Grant). The character will be drawn into the schemes of Hawke’s Arthur Harrow, who worships the Ancient Egyptian god Ammitt and attempts to convince Spector to embrace his inner darkness. The trailers for the series have emphasized Moon Knight’s darker tone, directly in contrast to previous MCU shows like Hawkeye which have been willing to push on with the tried and tested lighthearted MCU formula.

Now, in an exclusive interview with Screen Rant at the Moon Knight premiere, Hawke has explained which episode he’s most excited for audiences to see. The four-time Oscar nominee stated that he wants audiences to watch the sixth, and final episode of the series, because “that means they saw the whole thing.” Hawke explained that is due to the show being a limited series, with a “huge canvas.” Check out the actor’s full comments below:

Well, I guess I'd have to say [I’m most excited for fans to see] episode six because if they see six, that means they saw the whole thing. That's what I want to give people, the whole thing. That's the thing about a limited series. What's fun about it is that it's a huge canvas. What's hard about it is you want, I want people to see the whole thing. Even like at a premiere tonight, well, they're just seeing the first two episodes. I want them to see the whole Magilla.

With his answer, Hawke acknowledges that limited series tend to pay off when viewed as a whole, rather than as individual episodes. His explanation seems to indicate that Moon Knight will save the majority of pay-offs saved for its highly anticipated conclusion, which will also act as a jumping off point for Isaac's character to become integrated into the rest of the MCU. It will also make sure that any audiences who aren’t gripped by the show’s opening have a reason to stay tuned, and continue on until the series finale.

Hawke’s comments don’t mean that audiences should only be excited for the show’s conclusion, however. Moon Knight seems to be a step into new territory for the MCU, exploring darker, more mature themes along the way. Early Moon Knight reactions have praised the show for being an original and great entry in the franchise, so it will be exciting to see how it delivers on its premise. For audiences who love the MCU, that boldness alone will justify sitting down to watch Moon Knight right through till the end.
