Lydia Plath from Welcome To Plathville has surprised fans with her unpredicted behavior by straying away from what seems to be expected of her and doing what she wants to do. She is known for her compassionate, generous, and kind spirit, and has been the one to strive for peace in the middle of the chaos with her brother, Ethan, and their parents, Kim and Barry. During season 1, Lydia explained she is the one that her family relies on to keep the household running efficiently and to make sure everyone is taken care of. Lydia seemingly took on this role with no complaints and has been more than happy to help her family in any way possible.
When the show first aired, there were many things that the Plath children were not allowed to do. One of the most surprising on that long list was Kim and Barry's limit on technology. The children could not play video games, watch TV, or freely use computers and smartphones. Due to the strict rules, fans were surprised when the elder Plath siblings joined Instagram. Isaac and Lydia, in particular, since they are still living at home with their parents. Lydia has used her newly acquired social media platform to express herself and allow fans to get to know her on a personal level. Growing up on the family farm presented as an idyllic and peaceful retreat away from the chaos. The 55-acre farm is in a rural part of South Georgia, 10 miles away from the nearest town. The distance from the outside world didn't allow the kids to make many friends outside of their siblings as they were also homeschooled, something that Ethan, who if often pitied by fans, regretfully shared early on in the show. When Lydia recently shared photos on her Instagram smiling and surrounded by friends on Valentine's Day and for her 18th birthday, fans were beyond excited for her. Another expressed similar sentiments, writing, "Your parents must have eased up on their rules a bit to make sure the rest of you don't resent them like the older kids. Along with gaining new friends, Lydia has gained a new sense of confidence in what she wears. Moriah was always painted as the rebellious one in the family, preferring to wear bold makeup and more modern clothing. Lydia has always chosen to dress more conservatively and opted for a natural makeup approach. In a memorable moment during season 2, Moriah picked outfits from her closet for Lydia to try on in an attempt to bring Lydia out of her comfort zone. Since that time, Lydia has expanded her wardrobe beyond her typical blouses and long skirts. Her recent posts on Instagram show her wearing outfits that are different, such as a short jean skirt paired with a striped shirt to a beautiful tank top with jeans. Fans were quick to notice, with one user commenting, "You made some changes in your clothes. That's ok because you look amazing and beautiful. God bless you." Another wrote, "Cute short skirt!!!"
