Former 90 Day Fiancé star Mark Shoemaker’s daughter Elise shared her response to his divorce from wife Nikki Rose after six years of being married. Mark and Nikki are perhaps the most scandalous and mysterious couple from the franchise since their season 3 debut in 2015. Not only did Mark have a 39-year age gap with Nikki, but she was also just 19 when she moved to Maryland from Cebu City, Philippines. Fans often found themselves praying for Nikki’s safety and wondering what happened to her since after the show both Mark and Nikki were nowhere to be seen. It was Mark’s daughter Elise who sometimes dropped clues about Nikki and her father on social media, but that was about it.
On Tuesday night, a curious Reddit user ended up doing some investigating after watching Mark and Nikki on 90 Day Fiancé. They came across court documents that revealed Mark had filed for divorce on March 2. Now 64 years old, Mark made now 25-year-old Nikki sign a prenup on the show. Mark had four grown kids from his ex-wife, who was also from Cebu City, and the show featured Elise, who was a year older than Nikki. With Nikki and Mark missing from social media, Elise was somehow a link between them and TLC viewers. Elise took to TikTok to reveal how Mark had gone to the Philippines to specifically find a partner after he got divorced from her mom. Two weeks into his month-long Philippines trip, Mark revealed he was engaged to Nikki on Facebook without informing any of his friends or family beforehand.
It was after Mark returned to America that he spoke about his wife being younger than Elise, who had then just turned 19. It was easy to see that Elise had no sympathy left towards her father, which was confirmed in a later TikTok video when she confessed about having cut ties with Mark. After reading about the news of Mark and Nikki’s divorce, a fan posted a comment saying, “I hope they’re both free of him now,” on Elise’s TikTok (as shared via Redditor unlucky-end1798) “I’m so shocked. I’m absolutely shocked. They seem so happy together,” said Elise, her words dripping with sarcasm.
“Fun fact, you can, in Maryland, legally look up the Maryland judiciary case search,” Elise added with a shrug. “Again, I’m so shocked to hear about this. I really am,” she repeated herself. In the post's comments, fans applauded Elise for how savage she is for throwing shade at her family and how she’s trolling people at this point. “I decided to look his name up in the Maryland Judiciary Case Search and damn Mark must love to be petty in court. There are 48 cases that he has been involved in (mostly as the plaintiff),” added kjmills669 in another top-voted comment. In the past, Elise has made statements such as, “He is no longer in my life and I'm a better person for it," and shared more details about Mark filing a lawsuit against TLC as well.
It seems Mark was upset about the way he was portrayed on 90 Day Fiancé and used to claim his depiction on the show wasn’t like him “at all.” However, Elise knew that her father did act like that off-camera and explained that the lawsuit may have been dropped eventually since Mark and Nikki signed a contract before becoming a part of the franchise. That being said, Elise remains one of the most liked supporting 90 Day Fiancé cast members to date, and fans wouldn’t mind welcoming Nikki back to their screens all over again.
