Supernatural: 10 Best Team-Ups Other Than Sam And Dean
Since the Supernatural universe is expanding with the prequel, The Winchesters, in production, the fandom is probably here to stay for a long time. In recent days, the casting of the prequel has been announced and fans are pleased to see that the cast is diverse, which means that the show will have some much-needed representation.
The prequel is supposed to follow the duo of John and Mary Winchester. The best duo to come out of Supernatural is undoubtedly the brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester. However, there are many other team-ups from the show that fans still remember fondly.
Bobby and Rufus are one of the most loved duos in the Supernatural fandom. They get on each other's nerves all the time but always have each other's backs as well. They have been each other's partners for most of their hunting life and grew to deeply care about one another.
They make a great team and have killed off many monsters and saved plenty of people together. Also, they trust each other more than most people in their lives. This is what makes their team so amazing.
The mother-daughter duo, Ellen and Jo are one of the most memorable characters in the dark fantasy show. They are one of the many people on the show who have died to save Sam and Dean. They died in season 5 together and saved the Winchester brothers from hellhounds.
Ellen and Jo were strong portrayals of women who knew how to take care of themselves and also the people around them. Like any normal mother-daughter, they had their differences as Ellen can sometimes be a bit overprotective, but they still loved each other most in the world.
Castiel may have preferred the elder Winchester brother, but that doesn't mean that he and Sam don't make one of the teams on the show. Sam and Cas are similar in a lot of ways, they are both nerds, compassionate, and care a lot for Dean. They often team up when Dean's life is in some kind of danger.
When Dean was under the control of Mark of Cain, they tried their best to help him and spent a lot of time with each other. One of the best Sam and Cas moments is when they busted out Metatron together and Castiel showed his sassy side that he learned from Sam.
Garth was first introduced in season 7 of the show and when Dean meets him for the first time, he is not impressed. They meet when Becky tricks Sam into marrying him. He thinks of Garth as a scrawny and incompetent hunter but by the end of the episode, Garth and his quirkiness grow onto him.
It was one of the cutest scenes when Garth hugs Dean like his life depended on it and Dean is a little taken aback but he smiles and pats his back awkwardly. Garth became one of the Winchester brothers’ closest friends and the fact that Dean didn’t kill him when he became a werewolf shows how much he cared about him.
Rowena is an anti-hero and she walked the line of hero and villain throughout the show. The Winchesters make her aware of her good side, particularly Sam. Her character arc was great as she sacrificed her life to save the world and then became the reigning Queen of Hell.
Her relationship dynamic with Sam was interesting as she taught Sam a lot of her spells and Sam kind of became her protégé. They have saved each other number of times and when Rowena died, Sam had tears in his eyes and behaved like he had lost a loved one.
Donna and Jody are one of the best female duos of the show. What makes the duo so endearing is that they have contrasting personalities but still, they developed an attachment towards each other.
At first, they got off on the wrong foot but they became partners in crime for the rest of their lives. They also adopted many teenage girls, who were either hunters or had some supernatural powers. They created a safe space for them to hone their abilities.
Crowley used to be a cold and calculating King of Hell. However, in the later seasons, Crowley turned from a villain into a helpful friend for the boys. He even developed a deep friendship with Dean, especially when Dean became a Demon.
Crowley wasn't happy that a Winchester is now a vicious demon but was more excited about the fact that he has a partner and a buddy. They spent a lot of time together during that phase and after Dean was cured, Crowley frequently lamented having Dean by his side. Nevertheless, they continued to make a great team until Crowley died in the season 12 finale.
Charlie is an LGBTQ icon from Supernatural. Her character's entry made the LGBTQ feel so much validated and her friendship with Dean was nothing less than iconic. Male-female friendships on television that have no romantic undertones are so rare and that is why so beloved.
Dean and Charlie made up a badass team. Charlie was a nerd and a computer genius, which should have made Sam relate to her more. However, it was Dean who became best friends with her. She was like a little sister he always wanted. Dean could be more of himself around her, which is evident in the LARPing episode where they made an amazing pair of the queen and her handmaiden.
Castiel and Dean are one of the most popular duos not only in the Supernatural universe but in the world of television as well. They have the highest number of fanworks on AO3. The hunter and the fallen angel met in the season 4 premiere and since then, their relationship has been the greatest talk in town. They went through so much together, they have saved each other from hell, and have lost each other multiple times.
Through it all, they maintained their affection and devotion for one another. The first time they teamed up alone was in season 5 when Sam and Dean had a fallout and by the end of the episode, Dean admitted that he has never been this happy in a long time. That was just the beginning of their incredible journey together, which ended up with Castiel confessing his romantic love for Dean and then sacrificing his life to save Dean's.
Castiel and Crowley are the opposite sides of the same coin. One is an angel and the other is a demon but both have a soft spot in their hearts for the Winchester brothers. Due to that, they had to put up with each other several times on the show.
In season 7, Castiel betrayed Dean and Sam to collude with Crowley for opening the door of Purgatory. This could be a reason why Cas never really trusted him wholeheartedly. However, they begrudgingly worked together in the latter half of the show and it's always bound to make viewers laugh whenever they are on screen together. When they impersonated as FBI agents with the names, Agent Beyonce and Agent Zee has got to be one of the funniest moments of the show.
