Banerjee also announced compensation of ₹5 lakh each to the next of kin of the victims and ₹2 lakh each for rebuilding the damaged houses. She handed over cheques to the relatives of the deceased. Banerjee claimed the violence was a "big conspiracy" to malign the state and observed "the incident is condemnable and no one will be spared".
