The titular Bridgerton family has a lot of kids, so it's easy to lose track of how old all eight Bridgerton siblings are. Bridgerton season 2, set to drop on Netflix on Friday, March 25, takes place a year after the events of season 1. Though Simon (Regé-Jean Page) will not be returning this season, the rest of the Bridgerton family will be back for more drama and romance.
Bridgerton, set in Regency Era London and based on the historical romance novel series by Julia Quinn, focuses on the eight Bridgerton siblings: Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory, and Hyacinth. Adapted from the first book, The Duke and I, Bridgerton's season 1 focused on Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) as she makes her debut into London society and enters a fake courtship with Simon that soon becomes real. Bridgerton season 2 will focus on Anthony and his journey to find a wife. It's based on the second book, The Viscount Who Loved Me. Though Anthony has sworn off love after his heart is broken by opera singer Siena Rosso (Sabrina Bartlett), he soon gets into romantic entanglements in Bridgerton season 2. Anthony sets his sight on courting Edwina Sheffield (Charithra Chandran), though her older sister Kate (Simone Ashley) is dead-set on stopping this courtship. Though Kate and Anthony start off feuding, the sparks soon start flying between them.
Though the Netflix series obviously takes some liberties with the historical accuracy of the era, it's still steeped in the constraints and social mores of London high society of the time. Bridgerton's first season took place in 1813, and season 2 is set a year later, in 1814. In Regency Era society, girls were expected to marry young, so that is a factor to consider when it comes to calculating the siblings' ages. Also, with such a large family, the ages of the siblings cover quite a spread. Thankfully, Julia Quinn's novels provide some help in determining the ages of the central characters. Anthony, presented in Bridgerton season 1 as an old buddy of Simon's, is a similar age to the Duke of Hastings. Simon was born in 1789 according to the books, making him 29 in season 1; therefore, Anthony would be the same age. In Bridgerton season 2's story, Anthony would be 30, which probably adds to the mounting pressure on him as a viscount and the eldest son to find and secure a wife. Anthony's actor, Jonathan Bailey, is 33, putting him quite close to the actual age of the character he's portraying.
Benedict is the second-eldest Bridgerton child. There is less pressure on him to get married, so Benedict's story in Bridgerton involves more of his artistic pursuits. The books state that Benedict was born in 1786, which would make him 27 during Bridgerton's first season and 28 in Bridgerton season 2. Comparatively, Benedict's actor in Bridgerton, Luke Thompson, was born in 1988 and is 33 years old, the same age as the actor playing his older brother.
Colin, the third-eldest sibling, was born in 1791. In Bridgerton season 1, Colin is only 22, and will be 23 in season 2. In the Regency Era, Colin would've been considered young to get married, which explains his family's less than positive reaction when Colin announces he wants to marry Marina in Bridgerton's first season. In real life, Colin's actor, Luke Newton, born in 1993, is 29–a few years older than Colin.
Daphne is the eldest Bridgerton daughter. The books state that she was born in 1792, making her 21 in Bridgerton season 1 and 22 in season 2. At 21, Daphne was at a prime age to enter London society and find a husband. In Bridgerton season 2, Daphne's story could involve counseling Anthony in his search for a wife since the focus is no longer on her getting married. In real life, actress Phoebe Dynevor, born in 1995, is 26.
Eloise, the second-eldest Bridgerton daughter, was born in 1796, which would make her 17 in Bridgerton season 1 and 18 in season 2. Being in her late teens, Eloise is definitely at an age where she could make her debut in London society. Eloise doesn't show any interest in being a debutante in Bridgerton season 1, instead dedicating her free time to tracking down the identity of Bridgerton's anonymous gossip columnist Lady Whistledown. Series creator Chris Van Dusen has said (via The Wrap) that Eloise's Bridgerton season 2 storyline will focus on her struggles with entering society during the Ton's new social season. Claudia Jessie, Eloise's actress, was born in 1989, making her 32 years old. Though she is quite a bit older than her character, Jessie convincingly plays a teenager in Bridgerton.
Francesca, the third Bridgerton daughter, was born in 1797, which would make her 16 in Bridgerton season 1 and 17 in season 2, only a year younger than Eloise. In Bridgerton season 1, Francesca was absent from most of the episodes due to staying in Bath with her Aunt Winnie while practicing the pianoforte. Francesca is set to appear in a limited capacity in Bridgerton season 2 due to her actress, Ruby Stokes, having prior commitments with another Netflix series, the detective thriller Lockwood & Co. However, Bridgerton's possible sixth season is sure to have a major Francesca focus, as she is the main character of the sixth book, When He Was Wicked. Stokes, born in 2000, is 21 in real life.
Gregory is the youngest Bridgerton son. He doesn't have a prominent role in Bridgerton so far, but has been shown playing with and teasing his sister Hyacinth. Born in 1801, Gregory is 12 during Bridgerton season 1 and 13 during season 2. His actor, Will Tilson, was born in 2007 and is 15.
Hyacinth is the youngest Bridgerton sibling overall. In Bridgerton season 1, she's shown to be excited about Daphne's debut and is very curious about the goings-on of society. Hyacinth was born in 1803, making her 10 in Bridgerton season 1 and 11 in Bridgerton season 2. Her actress, Florence Hunt, was born in 2007, making her 15, the same age as her "older" brother.
With Bridgerton renewed for a third and fourth season, and Shonda Rhimes' desires to make Bridgerton an eight-season series, it'll be interesting to see how the Bridgerton siblings continue to grow and develop. It will be especially interesting to see how the younger Bridgertons end up navigating their debuts into London society in later seasons. The dedication to adapting one book per season will ensure that all the Bridgerton siblings eventually get their time in the spotlight.
