Otago v Aorangi Results

The Otago v Aorangi match was played at Lower Waitaki GC yesterday in great weather.

The Otago Masters players got of to a fast start winning all 4 foursome matches in the morning.  Masters rookie Blake Mason (Wanaka) and Veteran Andrew Hobbs (Otago) made lite work of Dave Cornelious and Blair Franklin 6/5 along with Ken Shaw (Taieri Lakes) and Paul Hubbard (Otago) who won 7/6 over Robbie Bell and Michael Peattie.

The Afternoon was one-way traffic early on for the Otago lads.

Big wins early to Hubbard over Peattie 7/5,  Shaw v Bell 6/4, Hobbs v Franklin 5/4 and John McIntee v Jeremy Duckmanton 3/2  put the ‘Taj Cup” in Otago’s hands.

Chris Snow (Otago) and Tony Giles(St Clair) went down the last in their matches both coming out on top 1 up over Jeff Hewitt and Owen Miller.

It wasn’t at great afternoon for the Wanaka pair of Mason and Rodney Kranhenbring both going down, Mason 1 down to Cornelious and Kranhenbring to Hamish Miles 3/2.

Over all it was a 10-2 win for the Otago Masters team.

In the Juniors “Piper Cup” the Otago boys had to fight hard in the afternoon falling behind 2-0 after the morning foursomes. Local Lachlan Coutts had a good win over up and coming youngster Tom Clayson 4/2 to give Otago its first point of the day. the top 2 matches went down the last hole with Baxter Meder (Otago) winning over Mac Kelleher and Isaac Hobbs (Otago) winning the last and taking a 2 up win over Tim Paulin.  Max Fatafehi (Lower Waitaki) went down 2/1 to Hamish Coutts ( Lower Waitaki) who come in to help out the Aorangi team due to covid.

Over all 3-3.
