[Outdoor Track & Field] Campbell Hits NAIA Qualifying Mark in Opening Meet

Doane Track and Field hosted the Doane Icebreaker Throws Meet on Saturday in Crete. Four events were contested for the men and women: discus, javelin, hammer throw, and shot put. Concordia and Hastings joined the Tigers in the opening meet for the spring season.

The Tigers had one national qualifying mark on the day and that came from Matthew Campbell (SR/Ainsworth, Neb.) in the hammer throw. He won with a throw of 56.34m (184-10) to meet the NAIA automatic qualifying standard. Campbell added a runner-up finish in the discus with a throw of 46.69m (153-02).

Doane athletes won the two javelin competitions. Allison Skala (JR/North Platte, Neb.) posted a winning throw of 38.45m (126-02) in the women's javelin while Parker Lange won the men's javelin with a mark of 47.61m (156-02). Brock Johnson (SO/Lincoln, Neb.) earned runner-up honors with a throw of 44.78m (146-11).

Additional top five marks were earned as well on the day. In the men's discus, Trey Dickey (FR) placed fourth with a throw of 41.80m (137-02). He added a fifth place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 49.47m (162-04). Zach Steib placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 13.27m (43-06.50). Grace Damme (SO/Syracuse, Neb.) finished fourth in the women's javelin with a throw of  31.90m (104-08).
