Peaky Blinders Season 6 Finally Answers Season 5's Biggest Question
Warning: spoilers for Peaky Blinders season 6.
Peaky Blinders season 6 has finally revealed the individual responsible for stopping Tommy Shelby's plan to assassinate Oswald Mosley, and the informant's treachery hasn't shown any signs of slowing down. Although Peaky Blinders is now in its final season, a movie is currently in the works to conclude the story of the Shelbys. Throughout the series' run there have been numerous mysteries and double-crosses, including a major question from Peaky Blinders season 5 that now has an answer.
In Peaky Blinders' season 5 finale, Tommy Shelby plans to kill the fascist Oswald Mosley. At the last minute, the plan unravels and mysterious forces kill Abarama Gold and sniper Barney Thompson. In the season 6 premiere, the IRA reveals to Tommy that they were responsible because they needed Oswald Mosley alive. They also inform Tommy that they killed Polly Gray to restructure his organization and keep him in line. Despite this, the informant that told the IRA of Tommy's intentions remained a secret until Peaky Blinders season 6, episode 5.
In the penultimate episode of Peaky Blinders, Jack Nelson—who is now working with the IRA, Tommy Shelby, and Oswald Mosley—sneaks up on Billy Grade in a public bathhouse. Nelson wraps cutting wire around Billy's genitalia and tells him, "I hear you're the informant in the Shelby organization." Fans rightly theorized that Billy was the informant in the season 5 finale. The interaction with Jack Nelson was just the peak of a bad day for Billy after Arthur had already forced him to kill a referee that wouldn't comply with their match-fixing scheme. Nelson rather brutally forces him to comply with his demands, which includes gathering information on Arthur. Whilst working against Arthur is a dangerous enough proposal if the Shelbys find out he is the informant, it will likely spell the end for Billy Grade.
Since Billy informs the IRA and stops the assassination of Oswald Mosley, he is also responsible for the deaths of Aberama Gold, Barney Thompson, and Polly Gray. Although Billy is not a fan of violence, his actions cause more death than intended. Peaky Blinders' final episode will see Tommy meet with Jack Nelson and Michael. Although Nelson's plan is for Michael to kill Tommy, if he tells either one that Billy is inadvertently responsible for Polly's death, they will likely make sure that Billy is held accountable for his betrayal. In Peaking Blinders season 5, it is Polly that warns Tommy that his dreams of a "black cat" mean a traitor is close. Following the recent revelation about Billy, it makes sense that he may have been the black cat that Polly was referring to.
The Peaky Blinders series finale will see Billy Grade trying to help Jack Nelson kill Arthur, to avoid a brutal "Italian death." Worryingly for Arthur, he will be more trusting of Billy, after the latter killed the referee on his orders. Nonetheless, Billy fears Arthur and his volatility—but he'll have to decide whether he fears Jack Nelson more. Either way, both Billy and Arthur will be in serious danger in Peaky Blinders season 6, episode 6, and it is unlikely that both will make it out alive.
