Fire Emblem Three Houses: 11 Hilarious Memes | Screen Rant

0

As gamers anticipate the release of the new tactical RPG spinoff Fire Emblem: Three Hopes on June 24, 2022, many are going back to play through its predecessor Fire Emblem: Three Houses to get reacquainted with the world of Fodlan and its characters, led by Byleth, a teacher who recruits students and goes on perilous missions in between classroom duties.

Since its release in 2019, the internet has had a field day creating uproarious memes that poke fun at the game's funniest elements, be they the length it takes to complete the game, Byleth's altering hair color, Edelgard's nature, Dedue's imperviousness, and much more.

One of the most hilarious refrains in the beloved tactical RPG is Marianne's constant need to tell the other characters how much they deserve to be seen, heard, and loved without condition. However, her arc revolves around having deep emotional pain and knowing the despair of feeling unloved and could use the exact same words of encouragement.

The meme comes from Saiykik via Twitter & Reddit, who titles the image as "Marriane giving you her support." The humor comes from the grand irony that it is Marianne who needs unconditional love and uplifting support more than anyone.

One thing players often point out in the popular modern JRPG is how intense Dedue is in battle. In a hilarious appreciation meme from @fe_paint (via Amino), Dedue voices how frighteningly merciless he is versus seven opponents, rather than the other way around. True talk, Dedue is an absolutely impenetrable beast.

It doesn't matter at all if an enemy is at 0x2 or even ox4, as Dedue will waylay every opponent with ease and without sustaining a lick of damage. All hail the almighty Dedue!

A constant complaint among gamers is just how much time it takes to play through the game, with lone chapters seemingly taking weeks on end to complete successfully. As such, Gryphonstar5678 at Imgflip has articulated the frustration by flipping one of those hysterical Race to the Witch Mountain memes featuring Dwayne Johnson and AnnaSophia Robb.

The humor here comes from the desire to speed through the game like the characters race to Witch Mountain, yet the repetitive playthrough will have players racing in circles, eventually leaving them with the incredulous look of The Rock above.

Gryphonstar5678 is back at it with another amusing meme that gets to the heart of the differences between Dimitri, Edelgard, and Claude, the three royal rulers in Fodlan. Using the iconic Three-Headed King Ghidorah Dragon image created by Michael J. Larson, the meme is hilariously on point.

It's true, Dimitri and Edelgard are not only far more aggressive than Claude, but as seen by Edelgard's expression, the severe lack of trust of the silly, lighthearted, and carefree teenager is very easy to recognize by all ardent Fire Emblem fans.

When Fire Emblem protagonist Byleth was added to the Super Smash Bros. as one of the best Switch RPG heroes in 2020, gamers were apoplectic over the nonsensical crossover. Thanks to EdgarDelaRosa via Imgflip, a meme hints at the collective sadness of what turned out to be anything but a practical joke by the game's creator Masahiro Sakurai.

Many variations on this meme have been created, but none better get to the heart of the exaggerated tragic-comedy gamers felt by the cruel crossover.

Created by Hakuramen via Know Your Meme, a comic cartoon quad pannel perfectly illustrates the stark difference between Byleth and Dimitri's recruiting scheme. On one hand, Byleth is overjoyed to see the class grow, unaware that the more the character recruits, the harder it will be to reverse time and undo the bloodshed.

Meanwhile, sad Dimitri is left crying alone by himself in class, making the deliberate decision to leave Edelgard behind and die alone rather than recruit the help of others.

Thanks to Asty1738 via Imgur, a brilliantly observed romantic dynamic is put in meme form, in which, much to the chagrin of Princess Edelgard, Byleth would much rather spend time with the student in the Black Eagles. Anyone who's seen Byleth interacting with Petra knows how humorous the character's infatuation is with her.

It also doesn't matter if Byleth is chosen as a male or female character at the beginning as they remain smitten with Petra far more than their so-called true love in Edelgard. Of course, Edelgard betrays Byleth several times, so Byleth's feelings aren't that unwarranted.

Asty1738 nails another hysterically accurate meme that makes the previous one even funnier. Edelgard is so righteous and indignant when Byleth favors Petra over her, yet breaks the character's heart so often in the game that the hilarious hypocrite has no real leg to stand on in her disapproval.

Indeed, Asty1738 uses the iconic "who killed Hannibal" meme from The Eric Andre Show to make a wildly over-the-top observation about Edelgard's blatant ignorance as to why she's so disliked by the other characters in the game.

Per Ikeimen via Know Your Meme, a really amusing recreation of The Shining's iconic "Here's Johnny!" scene has been reimagined as Edelgard hunting Byleth like Jack did Wendy Torrance, arguably the true hero of the film, in the doomed Overlook Hotel.

In the game, Edelgard goes absolutely chaotic in her quest to rid her kingdom of Crests, items that assist warriors in battle. She becomes so engrossed in her obsession that she turns poor Byleth into a Wendy Torrance who cowers in the corner as Jack swings his ax, a similar weapon to Edelgard's halberd and axehead.

Fire Emblem Three Houses is such a sprawling and time-consuming game that many players play through to the end without navigating the Golden Deer Kingdom. Via Imgflip, Gryphonstar5678 adds another funny meme on the topic, calling to mind SpongeBob's iconic "Don't You Squidward" meme.

For such a well-received game, it seems ludicrous that players can get to the end on multiple playthroughs without so much as sniffing the Golden Deer route, much less exploring it from head to toe.

Does anyone wonder why Byleth's hair color turns from a cobalt blue to a pale white during the game? Anuschka on Pinterest certainly does, showing a hilarious pictorial evolution of Byleth's locks that go from blue to blonde to red to mint?

It's a curious game design that bears serious scrutiny, but the real humor of the meme comes from thinking that Byleth's cohorts will only join if and when the character returns to sporting white hair. Did Byleth run out of hair dye somewhere in Fodlan? What gives?
