In a 2017 article, the publication gave meaning to pet names like babe, soulmate, squeeze, and hubby,

First, VICE joked that couples that call each other babe are most likely fighting, referencing the fact that many couples in movies and television use the nickname pleadingly in an argument.

If you refer to someone as bae, you’re probably not in a defined relationship with them.

The publication figures that couples that call each other their best friends are lucky to be in a happy relationship.

“How truly blessed you are to be the only people ever in the history of copulation to consider your long-term sexual partner your best friend,” VICE author Angus Harrison said about calling your partner your best friend.

A study by Insider in 2018 showed that couples that use pet names in their relationships typically have a healthier relationship dynamic.

About the term soulmate, Harrison thinks that people who use it are either blissful or kidding themselves.

“Either you’ve found permanent happiness or you’re overdoing it slightly and about to be lonely again.”

Using the terms fella or missus to refer to your partner insinuates that you are happy to be settling down — but you don’t want to make a huge deal out of your love.
