[Baseball] Falcons Grab 5-2 Win Over Southwestern in Windy Conditions
WICHITA, Kan. — The Friends University Falcons picked up their fifth win in the last six games, taking down the Southwestern College Moundbuilders 5-2 on a windy Tuesday (Mar. 29) at West Side Athletic Field.
Nolan Crumrine (FR/Sedgwick, Kan.) shined on the mound for the Falcons striking out a career-high nine batters while allowing just one run in eight innings of work.
The Builders took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Falcons matched in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Elerie Rivera (SR/Patillas, Puerto Rico).
Oliver Dunn (FR/Endeavour Hills, Australia) broke the gridlock in the fifth inning with an RBI single to left field, then Ricky Hockett (SR/Plainville, Kan. ) scored on a wild pitch. Max Coyt (SR/Hanford, Calif.) capped off the three-run fifth inning with an RBI single that brought Dunn home.
The Falcons added one more in the bottom of the seventh when Dunn singled to left field, driving in Caleb Coats (SO/Katy, Texas).
Southwestern threatened in the top of the ninth, trimming the lead to 5-2 after singles by Sterling Spurling, Brady Johnson, and Chris Weatherford, but Kyle Duffey (SO/Norman, Okla.) finished it off for the Falcons.
Dunn led the Falcons (20-11, 12-4 KCAC) with two hits and a pair of RBIs. Coyt, Niquan Benjamin (FR/US Virgin Islands), Pryce Anderson (JR/Coffeyville, Kan.), and Hockett each added a hit apiece.
Spurling and Weatherford paced the Builders (12-18, 3-12 KCAC) with two hits each.
The Falcons are back in action on Friday to open a three-game set against the York College Panthers. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at West Side Athletic Field.
