Paper Talk: Arsenal copy Liverpool with offer for 18-goal forward who ‘will be sold’; Three Man Utd exits to spark huge saving

Arsenal are looking to emulate Liverpool’s success with Luis Diaz after tabling a proposal to Colombian winger Luis Sinisterra, while three Man Utd exits will spark a saving of nearly £500,000 a week – all in Wednesday’s Paper Talk.

ARSENAL TABLE OFFER FOR LUIS SINISTERRA

Luis Diaz’s instant impact at Liverpool is seemingly the blueprint after Arsenal lodged a proposal to sign Colombian winger Luis Sinisterra, per a report.

Diaz has been a revelation since moving to Anfield from FC Porto mid-season. Jurgen Klopp has even gone on record to admit his surprise at how quickly the 25-year-old has adapted to the English game despite not having a pre-season and barely speaking English.

And according to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Arsenal could be looking for a similar transfer masterstroke.

The outlet states Arsenal are among a host of clubs chasing Feyenoord flyer Luis Sinisterra.

The 22-year-old is right-footed, though like Diaz, operates primarily on the left wing at club level.

He has bagged 18 goals and 11 assists in all competitions this season and is firmly in the Colombian national team plans at present.

In their latest World Cup qualifier held this morning, Sinisterra started on the right wing with Diaz occupying the left flank. Colombia defeated Venezuela 1-0, though it was not enough to secure a place in the play-offs with their absence at Qatar 2022 now confirmed.

The Italian outlet mainly focuses on the interest of Napoli in Sinsterra. However, it’s noted Arsenal – as well as Atletico Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen – are the ones to have made ‘proposals’.

Sinisterra cost too good to ignore?

A €15m price tag is deemed required to seal a deal. That could represent tremendous value for whichever club does secure his signature.

At present, Sinisterra has not committed to his next step. It’s noted none of the proposals have yet been taken up with a move away still at the dialogue stage.

However, it’s categorically stated he ‘will be sold this summer’ and Arsenal are in the mix.

The Gunners will be searching for extra firepower this summer after failing to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January. Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah coould also both depart as free agents.

A new striker is expected to be signed, though buying Sinisterra could also prompt a positional change for Gabriel Martinelli. The Brazilian currently operates in Sinisterra’s left wing position, but a central move could be his natural progression.

TRIPLE MAN UTD EXIT RAMPS UP

Manchester United have ‘no plans’ to retain three first-team stars this summer, with a triple exit sparking a saving of close to half a million pounds per week, per reports.

The fate of several Man Utd careers will be determined this summer – not least their raft of impending free agents.

It’s been expected for some time that Paul Pogba will depart when his contract expires. The Frenchman has shone in spells at Old Trafford, though has never done enough to justify his lofty price tag and salary.

Aside from Pogba, forward trio Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata will also become free agents.

Now, per transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, United reportedly have no intentions to offer extensions to any of those forwards.

Cavani has struggled for form and fitness this season following Cristiano Ronaldo’s return. Lingard, meanwhile, has endured a wholly disappointing campaign after entering the season with expectations sky high.

Lingard set the league alight on loan with West Ham last year but was quickly shoehorned into a reserve role upon returning to Old Trafford.

Mata’s influence at United has been diminishing for years and he has not made a single league appearance this year.

The Sun add up the combined salaries of the trio and report a £485,000 saving will be made on their salaries each week.

Some of that saving could quickly be re-invested into extensions for current starters. Romano added new contracts are on the horizon for Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw.

CHELSEA FLOP OFFERED ESCAPE ROUTE

Meanwhile, Chelsea struggler Kepa Arrizabalaga could end his troubled spell in London by reuniting with a former Blues manager.

The Spanish goalkeeper became the world’s most expensive goalkeeper upon arriving from Athletic Bilbao in 2018.

Kepa courted the wrong type of headlines when refusing to be substituted in the 2019 League Cup final – which Chelsea went on to lose on penalties.

Edouard Mendy quickly displaced Kepa after being signed from Rennes. Since the Senegalese arrived, Kepa has become a distant second choice with the cup competitions his only respite.

Now, per Sport Witness, Kepa could be offered a surprise chance to reunite with former boss Maurizio Sarri at Lazio.

Sarri would reportedly ‘gladly resume working’ with the stopper. That’s despite Sarri being the manager Kepa refused to obey at Wembley.

A deal won’t be straightforward with both the cost of a transfer and Kepa’s salary presenting issues.

As such, a loan deal could be on the agenda, though even that would require Chelsea to subsidise a large portion of his wages.
