Mrs Hinch, whose real name is Sophie Hinchliffe, 32, has long been a favourite amongst fellow cleaning enthusiasts, with close to 4.5 million followers on Instagram.

A substance made up up of calcium and magnesium, limescale is a regular occurrence in households with hard water.

This produces a layer of grime which is difficult to remove and is most commonly found inside kettles, pipework, toilets, showers, as well as around taps.

Although limescale is usually quite stubborn, Mrs Hinch fans vouched for a 2p coin trick.

Lynsey Buchan commented: “Wet a 2p and scrape it off,” whilst a fellow enthusiast, Vicky Rayson, said that the coin on its own was ”amazing”.

Another fan shared instructions, which claimed that wetting a 2p coin will dissolve the limescale.

According to Sophie’s fans, the chemical reaction between copper and limescale causes it to break down.

Lisa Prince claimed: ”A 2p works, I did it with mine when I moved into my property.

”Hold it at a slight angle, just rub the limescale build up, like you’re chipping away.”

For those not convinced, some also recommended using a limescale spray Viakal – one of Mrs Hinch’s personal favourite house cleaning products.

”Foam it up into a sponge and dab it on so the foam is sitting on the limescale,” said one member of the popular Facebook group.

”Leave for about 20 minutes and try to scrub it off. If it doesn’t work the first time, keep repeating.”

Meanwhile, Vicki Cocrell suggested packing a load of toilet roll under the rim and round the back and spraying the solution.
