How to update Google Chrome on your Android phone

Keeping your apps up to date doesn’t just get you newer features, but it keeps you safe from security flaws as well.

This week, the tech giant alerted its Chrome users (all 3.2 billion of them) to a dangerous new security flaw affecting the popular browser.

Whether you access Chrome through a laptop or a phone, this so-called ‘zero-day’ vulnerability is still dangerous as it could lead to hackers gaining access to your device.

Although Google usually sends out security updates for Chrome every few weeks, it pushed out a special emergency update to address this new threwat specificially.

If you’re using Chrome on your Android phone, you need to make sure you’re running version 99.04844.84 or later to keep your device safe.

How to update Chrome on Android

Here’s how to make sure you’ve got the latest version of Chrome installed on your device.

1. Open the Google Play app on your phone or tablet and tap the Profile icon in the top-right corner.
2. Tap on the Manage apps and device option.
3. Under the Updates available option, tap See details and scroll down until you find Google Chrome
4. Tap on the Update button

It will only take a few seconds to download the update – you’ll just need to relaunch Chrome to finish the process. You can either do that right away or at a later convenient time.

What’s more, Microsoft’s Edge browser is also affected by the same security flaw because it uses the same underlying technology as Chrome.

If you’re using Edge on your device, then you should update that as well by following the steps outlined above.
