UK pledges over $374 M of life-saving assistance for Afghanistan

A day before the United Kingdom co-hosts a pledging conference on Afghanistan, the country pledged over $374 million for life-saving food and emergency health support.

Alongside providing life-saving assistance to the Afghan people, the UK’s aid is aimed at supporting farmers to overcome the impacts of drought and access to health services.

The aid is supposed to be channeled through UN aid agencies and trusted NGOs as no Taliban member will directly benefit from the assistance.

UK, Germany, and the United Nations to hold a conference on Afghanistan to support the UN’s largest-ever appeal for a single country, $4 billion.

The UN estimates that 10 million children in Afghanistan urgently need humanitarian assistance to survive.

Since October, UK aid to Afghanistan is already supported more than 60 hospitals, providing health services for more than 300,000 people, ensuring 4.47 million people get emergency food assistance through the World Food Programme, and providing 6.1 million people with emergency health, water, protection, shelter, food, and education support through the UN Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund.
