Even Captain Marvel Knows Her New Nemesis Is a Complete Joke
Warning! Spoilers for Captain Marvel #37 by Marvel Comics
As surprise villains return, Captain Marvel willingly admits that a silly, giant cat-riding wizard is one of her most embarrassing nemeses ever.In Captain Marvel #37 by Marvel Comics, Carol Danvers can't help but call out the return of the Snats, who, while having some impressive powers, are among the biggest jokes she ever faced off against - as she even calls them out for being smelly cats.
Captain Marvel is one of the most powerful Marvel Comics heroes, as she's gone blow-for-blow with some of the most powerful villains in the galaxy. Carol Danvers nearly defeated Thanos singlehandedly, has helped take down Ultron and even defeated some of her fellow heroes with ease. So, when a wizard riding a giant cat returns in the new issue of Captain Marvel, the hero can't help but call out the joke villain for being quite an embarrassing nemesis for someone of her power level. And she quickly proves she's not wrong about that assessment.
In Captain Marvel #37 by Kelly Thompson, Julis Ohta, Ruth Redmond and VC's Clayton Cowles, the Snats make a surprise return after a brief appearance in taking on Captain Marvel previously. The giant alien cats, who have quite a putrid smell, try to take down Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Binary, but are quickly dealt with. Their wizard leader tries to intimidate them in the battle, but Binary knocks him out with a powerful blast. The Snats return later in the issue for round two but once again are dispatched. As the fight concludes, Carol admits the Snats are an "embarrassing" nemesis for her, as the villains are little more than a joke.
Captain Marvel has a point about the Snats being a joke villain for her. Giant-sized alien cats that smell bad who a man in a wizard hat controls don't exactly scream 'intimidating villains.' However, the Snats might have played a key role in Captain Marvel's capture, as the "embarrassing" wizard cuts her arm, which could have played a factor in her disappearance at the end of the issue. Captain Marvel is about to go on trial for her crimes against magic, so getting her to bleed might have alerted others to her whereabouts.
On the surface, the Snats are an embarrassing joke that Captain Marvel would never want to be one of her nemeses. However, despite being a complete joke, the wizard seems to have alerted other magic users to Carol Danvers' location, setting the stage for her upcoming trial. So, joke or not, the Snats seemingly accomplished their mission - even if they weren't exactly the most threatening villain. Captain Marvel #37 is in comic book stores now.
