To celebrate National Poetry Month, Bookshop.org is helping readers donate copies of Amanda Gorman's books to schools and community organizations.

Amanda Gorman became an easily recognizable name in the poetry world since her performance of "The Hill We Climb" at Biden's 2021 inauguration, marking her as the youngest presidential inaugural poet in history. She also became the first-ever National Youth Poet Laureate in 2017, an annual award that celebrates young American poets for their commitment to artistic excellence, civic engagement, and social justice.

Gorman has written three books: the poetry collection "Call Us What We Carry," the children's book "Change Sings," and her inaugural poem, "The Hill We Climb," which includes a foreword from Oprah Winfrey. All three books were published in 2021 and became instant #1 bestsellers.

Amanda Gorman's books you can donate through Bookshop.org's drive: "Call Us What We Carry," "Change Sings," and "The Hill We Climb."

Bookshop.org supports local and independent bookstores by donating part of the proceeds of each purchase. For this drive, it's partnering with Penguin Young Readers to help shoppers directly buy and donate copies of Gorman's books to schools, libraries, and book banks. The drive also includes other organizations such as We Need Diverse Books, a non-profit that distributes books to low-income classrooms, educators, and organizations across the country.

How the Bookshop.org book drive works:

To participate in this book drive, all you have to do is select a participating bookstore, which will receive 30% of the retail purchase price, and its partner organization, which will receive the donated books. You can search by state to find a local bookstore and even filter to find Black-owned bookstores.

Once you select an affiliate, you can choose which books and how many you'd like to donate. Separate purchases are required to support multiple bookstores or purchase additional copies for yourself, but you can purchase a donation copy and non-book drive books for yourself in the same order.

While you don't receive a tracking number for your donation, you also aren't charged for shipping. You can also use your donation order as a tax write-off.

If you're unable to purchase and donate a book, you can still support the drive by sharing it on social media. Each participating organization also has its own donation page, which you can share if you want your followers to donate to a local bookstore or specific non-profit.

The Amanda Gorman Book Drive is open now through May 13, 2022.
