Did Jordan Kent Just Fly? Superman & Lois Hints At Major Powers Increase
Warning: Spoilers for Superman & Lois season 2, episode 9
Alex Garfin’s Jordan Kent may have just unlocked his flying ability in Superman & Lois, which would mark a massive change to his power level in the Arrowverse. Gradually, Jordan has been working on developing and controlling the many abilities he’s inherited from Superman. In the span of just two episodes, Jordan may have added two new tools to his arsenal.
Since discovering that he possesses at least a fraction of Clark’s capabilities as Superman, Jordan has had to grapple with his burgeoning Kryptonian powers. In less than two full seasons, Jordan has learned how to properly utilize his super strength, heat-ray vision, ice breath, and super hearing. In episode 8, it was revealed that Jordan discovered super speed off-screen. In Superman & Lois season 2, episode 9, titled “30 Days and 30 Nights”, Jordan put all of his powers to use in an effort to save Kyle Cushing (Erik Valdez) from an unusual fire. To get him to safety, Jordan soared through the air and managed to get him out in time.
Jordan claimed in his conversation with Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) that he flew, but it’s hard to say for sure if that’s what really happened. Though it was framed like flight, some have interpreted Jordan's big move as a massive jump. It’s also possible that an explosion behind him helped propel him into the air. If Jordan is right about flying, then his power level just got an unexpected boost. Despite only being 15 years old, Jordan is already more powerful than a majority of the Arrowverse’s superheroes. Having flight would dramatically improve his versatility and what’s he capable of accomplishing in the Arrowverse.
Superman & Lois season 2 is quickly transforming Clark and Lois' super-powered son into a force to be reckoned with. Admittedly, his strength is several levels below Superman (and may always be that way), but that doesn’t take away from the fact that his progression thus far has been remarkable. If he can fly, the only major Superman powers he’s still missing are his x-ray vision and super breath (which creates strong winds instead of ice). Smallville’s Clark, by comparison, spent years getting these abilities and didn’t even learn how to fly until he was well into his 20s. Jordan’s powers are developing at a much faster rate.
Since his strength is so limited, Jordan may have to rely more heavily on his other powers than full-blooded Kryptonians, flight included. For now, it remains to be seen if it really has been permanently added to Jordan’s powerset in the Arrowverse. Because even if he did fly in Superman & Lois, confirmation of that may not come right away. More training with General Lane or practice with the power may be necessary before he can use it at will. Mastery over one of Superman’s most coveted powers could understandably require time, discipline, and patience.
Superman & Lois releases new episodes on Tuesdays on The CW.
