Marvel's Avengers Reveals MCU Thor Skin After Catastrophic Update
Following an update that causes PlayStation 5 consoles to crash, Marvel's Avengers has immediately announced a new Thor skin from 2013's Thor: The Dark World. Crystal Dynamics' multiplayer Marvel adventure released back in September 2021, and since its divisive launch it has struggled to find solid footing. A recent Marvel's Avengers War Table update promised to introduce many quality-of-life changes, but this only served to break the game further.
Following the game's last major update on November 30, 2021, many fans feared that Marvel's Avengers would soon be abandoned. However, Crystal Dynamics recently announced an exciting update meant to introduce quality-of-life improvements to several of the superhero slugfest's systems in order to allow for more long-term adjustments. Nick Fury was reintroduced into the Marvel's Avengers story, with the iconic superspy meant to guide new players through the experience, and the War Table was streamlined to make it easier to locate and choose missions. Unfortunately, many players have been unimpressed by the new content, and the Marvel's Avengers update is causing PS5 crashes which have yet to be revolved by Crystal Dynamics.
Despite ongoing PlayStation 5 crashes following the War Table update, Marvel's Avengers (via Twitter) has gone ahead and announced a new skin inspired by Thor: The Dark World. The 2013 installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sees Thor, portrayed by Chris Hemsworth, battle the Dark Elves for the fate of Asgard alongside his brother Loki. Despite the accuracy and authenticity of the in-game costume, many fans feel that selling a new skin before repairing damage from the recent patch is very audacious. Still, MCU fans can find the new Marvel's Avengers skin in the game's Marketplace starting March 31.
While the game has received plenty of criticism, Marvel's Avengers has been praised for its accurate Marvel Cinematic Universe skins. The recently-released Spider-Man armor from Avengers: Infinity War, for example, perfectly recreates the technological suit worn by the friendly neighborhood hero. The costume also saw use in Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: No Way Home, making it an iconic look for the MCU version of Spider-Man. Crystal Dynamics was able to perfectly recapture the metallic sheen and vibrant coloration of the live-action attire, proving that more care goes into MCU suits than any other part of the game.
Marvel's Avengers tried to make dramatic improvements with the War Table update, but unfortunately the attempt led to further backlash from fans. Now the announcement of the Thor: The Dark World skin, before the PlayStation 5 crashes have even been fixed, has further outraged an already angry playerbase. The skin may be accurate to the big screen, but it is unlikely that any fans are pleased by the reveal.
Marvel's Avengers is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Google Stadia.
