I’m a gardening expert – here’s an easy way to kill weeds for free

ONE of the most frustrating aspects of springtime is working to clear overgrown weeds from your garden, trying guaranteed sprays that fail to work and contain dangerous chemicals.

With one inexpensive strategy, you can bypass the stress and worry and dispense of your garden weeds in mere seconds.

Martine Le Gassick, a creative director at the garden-focused UK business Stark & Greensmith, told Express her own favorite tricks for killing weeds.

The easiest strategy is also the cheapest: completely free.

“As the garden begins to grow back in spring, so do the nasty garden weeds,” Le Gassick said.

“Harsh chemicals aren’t always an option if you have little ones or pets running around.”

Instead, simply boil water on the stove or an electric kettle, and then slowly pour it over the weeds you want to banish from your garden plot.

“This can be a quick and simple way of disposing of weeds,” Le Gassick advised.

“Just make sure to pour small amounts over the area,” she added.

Going slowly keeps hot water from splashing back onto your skin, and adding a little bit at a time prevents over-watering that could harm surrounding plants.

If you’re trying to tackle weeds that are in crevices on sidewalks or garden paths, take extra care to avoid splashback on paved areas.

Also, protect yourself, your pets, and your family from the still-steaming water once you’ve dumped the hot water.

“Make sure to keep the area clear until the water has cooled down,” Le Gassick added.

Then, you can pull any debris up easily, or even brush them away with a small rake or trowel.

Boiling water is also eco-friendly, doesn’t introduce any unknown chemicals to your garden’s ecosystem, and won’t have a long-lasting impact on the surrounding plant environment.

However, you do need to be careful not to pour boiling water onto the plants you do want in your garden – the hot temperature can kill the plant instantly.
