Video: Defender names Spurs star as player he would love to face at World Cup

0

Canadian defender Alistair Johnston has admitted it would be surreal to go up against the likes of Harry Kane in Qatar after his nation qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 36 years.

Canada’s only previous appearance at the men’s World Cup came in the 1986 edition in Mexico, where they lost every single match (CNN).

That is why it was a special night for Canadians on Sunday when they saw their team beat Jamaica 4-0 to book a place in the 2022 World Cup.

Johnston, who plays for Major League Soccer club CF Montreal, admitted the achievement is yet to sink in and it will be special to go up against the best in the world, such as the England captain.

Watch what Johnston said about Canada’s historic achievement below:

This shows the amount of respect that fellow professionals have for Kane and his achievements. That certainly counts for more than the opinion of rival fans, who cannot help but point to the 28-year-old’s lack of silverware every time someone compliments him.
