‘You’re too old’ – Joe Hart reveals Nuno brutally dismissed him from Spurs

Joe Hart has revealed Nuno Espirito Santo brutally criticised his abilities in goal and ‘buried’ his Tottenham career before his departure last summer. 

Former England No.1 Hart joined Spurs at the start of last season, but spent just one campaign in North London before leaving the club, making just 10 appearances in total (Transfermarkt). 

The 34-year-old later sealed a switch to Scottish giants Celtic, where he has emerged as a go-to option under manager Ange Postecoglou. 

Despite seeing minutes come at a premium at Spurs, Hart’s exit has been unveiled as a sour one after having a brutal conversation with Nuno, who was appointed as the club’s head coach to start the campaign. 

The ex-Manchester City man has since uncovered how Nuno told him he would be playing no further part in the side, as well as having his goalkeeping abilities torn into by the Portuguese coach. 

He told the In The Stiffs podcast: “He just went, ‘In my opinion, we all reach a point in our career where the body won’t allow you to play football’. 

“‘We’re at it now. I would not feel comfortable with you playing one minute for me. The ball’s too quick for you, you’re too old, you’re not moving, you’ve got no strength in your body’.

“He literally buried me and I’m laughing because, whether I’m deluded or not, I was like, I don’t agree with any of that.”

Hart has played 46 times for Celtic since his arrival (Transfermarkt) and featured in the club’s Scottish League Cup triumph over Hibernian in December. 

Nuno, meanwhile, was dismissed as Spurs boss after just a handful of months in charge and was replaced by Antonio Conte in November.

This seems like a very harsh way to leave the club and you can’t begin to imagine what it was like for Hart to be told he wouldn’t be playing at all, as well as seeing his abilities critiqued massively. 

He seems to have dispelled Nuno’s claims regardless at Celtic and even though he wasn’t the first choice at Spurs, you have to say that is very poor man-management skills for a player in the squad.
