Hunter Pence and 2014 SF Giants World Series champion teammate join MLB Network
Hunter Pence will be back on TV this baseball season, much to the delight of Giants fans.
The only catch is they’ll need an extended cable package to see him.
Pence and former Giants teammate Jake Peavy have been hired for this season by MLB Network as analysts, the network announced Wednesday.
Both came to San Francisco in the second halves of their All-Star careers, arriving midway through an eventual championship season. Pence was a major character on the 2012 and 2014 World Series champion teams after being traded from Philadelphia, while Peavy helped the Giants get over the top to complete their run to the ’14 title after they acquired him from Boston.
Pence, a four-time All-Star, played for the Giants from 2012 to 2018, returning in 2020 for a short run before retiring in August of the truncated season. Peavy, the 2007 Cy Young winner with the Padres, made three All-Star games in his career and won a World Series with the Red Sox in 2013, making his 2014 title a personal repeat.
During his Giants tenure, Pence became beloved by the fanbase for his eccentric personality and unorthodox mechanics in the field and at the plate. He spent some time last season as a color analyst on NBC Bay Area and also did some work on Fox’s airwaves.
