Marvel Celebrates Female Heroes With Free Online Comics
New comic book readers and fans of Marvel can rejoice as the publisher celebrates its female heroes with a line of free online comics. From now until April 25, subscribers of Marvel Unlimited, Marvel's digital comic subscription service, will have access to four different storylines starring female power players and their respective origin stories. Fans will be able to see how She-Hulk, America Chavez, Jane Foster's Thor, and Ms. Marvel all became the beloved superheroes they are today.
While Marvel Unlimited is mostly a great place to catch up on new books released by Marvel Comics, the service recently added its own original titles, Infinity Comics, in a massive update. In addition to those original series, Unlimited also offers over 29,000 comics from Marvel's catalog. This library of titles from all over Marvel's 80+ year history is impressive, and now, Marvel is using the app to put a focus on some of its best female heroes.
The recent announcement from Marvel states that these introductory storylines are perfect for new readers to become acquainted with Marvel's next wave of heavy hitters. Starting off the celebration is America Chavez, a multiverse traveler able to tap into the power of creation to boost her own physical capabilities and open dimensional portals at will. Her story is captured in America Chavez: Made in the USA from Kalinda Vasquez and Carlos Gomez. Next up is Jane Foster's Thor collection from Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman. After Odinson is deemed unworthy and frost giants attack Earth, Jane Foster manages to lift Mjolnir and transforms into a new version of the Asgardian powerhouse. Following her is Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel. With powers similar to Mr. Fantastic, Kamala's origin is collected in Ms. Marvel Vol 1: No Normal from G Willow Wilson and artist Adrian Alphona. And last but certainly not least is Jennifer Walters, or She-Hulk as she is known to readers. Charles Soule and Javier Poule team up to tell the story of a legal attorney juggling being a butt-kicking superhero.
These storylines are all from 2014 and serve as perfect starting points to begin following these heroes. Not only does Marvel Unlimited give readers free access to these stories, but it also has the added benefit of tracking the characters afterward. Following comic books is often tricky, but the service will allow readers to see what these powerful women went on to do, and where they are now. Since these characters are being touted as the "next wave of power players", it's likely that they'll play a big part in Marvel's upcoming event: Judgment Day.
Again, readers can admire the Women of Marvel with these free comics from now until April 25. Be sure to subscribe to Marvel Unlimited to avoid missing out on this excellent celebration.
