Pep Guardiola ‘thinking carefully’ about striker proposal with agent in England
Pep Guardiola is “thinking carefully” over making an offer to Paulo Dybala with the striker’s agent reportedly in England.
Dybala is out of contract at Juventus this summer and looks destined to leave Turin. The Argentina forward was willing to pen an extension with the Serie A club, but his sentiment changed when the club reportedly changed their terms.
Dybala is on a €7.3m-a-year deal, around £118,000 a week before tax, at Juventus, as per Tuttosport.
And while that would not pose a problem for a number of Premier League suitors, including City, Arsenal and Tottenham, there’s been no real inclination yet from any English clubs to sign the 28-year-old.
But Inter Milan have reportedly laid out their interest, as per Tuttosport. Inter directors Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio have met Dybala’s agent Jorge Antun. And they are hoping to persuade the attacker to move east to Milan.
Inter have not yet put their offer on the table, but Antun certainly seems like he is collating all the offers for his client.
According to the Corriere dello Sport, via Sport Witness on Wednesday, Antun is “now in England” and is on a “recon lap in the Premier League”.
Dybala bought by Paratici
City of course are looking for a striker and have used a false nine all season. But Guardiola did try three times to buy Harry Kane last summer – a proven, out-and-out No 9.
And now Guardiola and Manchester City are one of the clubs “thinking carefully” about making a move for Dybala.
Atletico Madrid are also named as suitors for the 13-goal forward, but, Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal have previously been linked.
Spurs director Fabio Parartici in fact signed Dybala for Juve from Palermo in June 2015. And while Antonio Conte is understood to be a fan, Dybala did snub Spurs at the 11th hour in 2019. Whether Daniel Levy can look beyond that is unclear.
Rivals Arsenal have held talks with Dybala’s agent, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. And no doubt Antun will be making a stop in north London this week.
But if Guardiola gives the nod, it would be hard to see Dybala ending up anywhere else but The Etihad this summer.
