Falcon & Winter Soldier Censored Scene To Be Restored To Original Version

0

The seemingly censored scenes that eagle-eyed fans spotted in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+ are to be restored to their original versions. Disney appeared to make changes to two scenes in the MCU Phase Four series, making them less violent and thus more suitable for younger viewers. This was recently brought to light by various Twitter accounts, and it looks like this issue will be resolved soon.

One censored scene showed villain Helmut Zemo (Daniel Brühl) shooting ex-Hydra scientist Wilfred Nagel (Olli Haaskivi) square in the chest. The shot of the scientist's body, once shown as being splattered with blood and with his eyes lifelessly open, suddenly has no blood whatsoever, and his eyes are now closed. The other scene, from the same episode (ep. 3, "Power Broker"), originally had Bucky Barnes/the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) throwing a pipe at a goon and the weapon going straight into their shoulder. The new censored version shows the pipe bouncing off of him instead.

Many speculated that this may have been part of a larger censoring of Marvel's more violent content on Disney+'s part due to the new parental control options made available after Marvel's Defenders series premiered on the platform last week. However, a source at Disney has told EW that the censored Falcon and Winter Soldier scenes resulted from an alternate cut of the episode being accidentally uploaded in an attempt to correct a credit. It was then confirmed that the folks at Disney+ are currently working to change it back.

It was revealed last year that Anthony Mackie, whose character Sam Wilson/the Falcon became the new Captain America in the finale, will be reprising his role in a fourth Captain America movie for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the show, Wilson gave his old wingsuit to fellow soldier Joaquín Torres (played by Danny Ramirez), insinuating that he could become the new Falcon as he does in the comics. Ramirez has spoken out about this, stating that he wouldn't mind teaming up with Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight, whose own show's first episode just premiered today on Disney+.

As for this little censoring mistake, fans were scared of this because they generally love it when Marvel breaks the boundaries of what can and cannot be shown with a PG-13 (or, in this case, TV-14) rating. Fans were worried that Marvel might be going soft by going back on the violence shown in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier under the Disney banner. However, now that it is known that these censorings were just a mistake and that the scenes won't be that way for much longer, fans can rest happy knowing that Marvel Studios is still unafraid to go beyond the limits of traditional storytelling.
