Marin Briefs: Hard-hitting Bulldogs shut out Mustangs

Prep softball

Thomara Drummer went 4 for 4 at the plate and allowed just two hits in five innings on the mound, leading San Rafael to a 9-0 win against San Marin Wednesday.

The Bulldogs piled up 16 hits, getting multi-hit games from Drummer, Cassidy Kaplan, Angel Amesa, Kelsey McNair, Megan Murphy and Sophia Everett.

San Marin’s Katie Cook had two hits.

• Sammy Horn and Lindsay Harrison had three hits each to lift Marin Catholic to a 15-0 victory against Terra Linda Wednesday. Selena Pena struck out nine hitters and allowed one hit in four innings of work for MC.

Prep baseball

Tyler Buxton and Jack Farstein combined to toss a three-hitter, lifting Tam to a 5-2 win against San Marin Tuesday.
Buxton helped his own cause with an RBI single in the first inning to make it 2-0 after Kaiden Dossa drove in the initial run.

San Marin climbed back into the game, pulling within 3-2 on a solo shot by Anthony Scheppler in the bottom of the sixth inning. Tam tacked on two insurance runs in the seventh, courtesy of a two-run single by Hoffman Joachim.

Boys tennis

Marin Catholic’s top singles player, Nickawn Namdar, cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory but Redwood swept the other six matches en route to a 6-1 win Tuesday. Charlie Boyden, Jackson Bramlette and Mateo Cubillos won at Nos. 2-4 singles, respectively, for the Giants.

Quinn Birkenseer and Wyatt Dunn pulled out a 12-10 super-tiebreaker victory at No. 1 doubles, helping Terra Linda to a 6-1 win against Novato. Summit Schreck had the lone win for the Hornets at No. 2 singles.

• Despite splitting singles play, Branson held tough to defeat Archie Williams, 5-2 at Canon Club. The Falcons’ Jake Magnusson defeated Luke Tuscher at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 7-5. Anders Jacobs picked up the other win for Archie Williams at No. 4 singles.

Branson’s Henry Pratt won, 6-4, 5-7, 11-9, at No. 3 singles and Max Goldman won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.

Boys volleyball

Mark Ogden powered home 18 kills, nine digs and an ace as Marin Catholic defeated West County, 3-0, on Tuesday. The Wildcats’ Andrew Terauchi added 28 assists, six digs and two aces, while Matthew Dolan tallied three kills, two aces and two blocks.

Dipsea

As Women’s History Month ends, the Dipsea Race Committee continues plans to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the final Women’s Dipsea Hike in 1922 with a tribute event on Saturday morning, April 30, in Mill Valley to commemorate the pioneering hike first contested in 1918 when women were discouraged from participating in running competitions and barred from the then male-only Dipsea race.

The Women’s Dipsea Hike celebration will start in Old Mill Park at 8 a.m. with opening ceremonies and a Period Costume Contest followed at 9 a.m. with the commemorative hike from Mill Valley to Stinson Beach along the historic Dipsea Trail.

Women’s Dipsea Hike bib pick-up will be Friday, April 29, at the Mill Valley Recreation Center from 5-7:30 p.m. Due to COVID-19 safety precautions, participants and volunteers are asked to wear masks during the opening ceremonies and period costume contest judging and while on the trail. There will no celebration luncheon or congregating activities planned at the finish at Stinson Beach State Park. Hikers are encouraged to support local Stinson Beach eateries and establishment or plan for a social-distanced picnic in the park.
