Turner Motorsport Begins GT World Challenge Season at Sonoma

Turner Motorsport will begin their 2022 campaign for the Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS championships beginning from the first round at Sonoma Raceway on 15-17 April. Proven team mates Michael Dinan and Robby Foley, who won the 2020 GT4 America SprintX Pro-Am drivers’ championship, will drive the all-new #96 Liqui-Moly BMW M4 GT3, competing in the Pro Cup category.

Dinan and Foley have already had plenty of track time in the new M4 GT3, competing in the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, and the 12 Hours of Sebring, where Turner Motorsports finished fourth in the GTD class. The blue and red dazzle-liveried Liqui-Moly M4 GT3 has also had ample time to test on Pirelli tyres during the pre-season.

“We have had recent success with the new BMW M4 GT3 in our IMSA program with a fourth-place finish at Sebring,” said team founder Will Turner. “Add the data from the sprint race at Long Beach the weekend before Sonoma, [and] I feel confident of a good start to the SRO season with the brand-new BMW GT car. Michael is really maturing as a driver, and learning from Robby the same way Robby learned from Bill Auberlen. I know we have a winning combination.”

“This is my fourth season in SRO and my second in GT World Challenge America. I’m excited to be kick off the 2022 championship with the Turner team and Robby,” said Dinan. “We are excited to see how the M4 GT3 does on the Pirellis after a successful race in Sebring. Our goal is to win the championship this year, so we are hoping to hit the ground running with this new M4 platform.”

“I can’t wait to get the SRO season going with Michael in our new M4 GT3,” said 25-year-old Foley. “We’ve had 36 hours of racing so far in 2022 to learn the car, so we’re excited to apply that knowledge and continue development on Pirellis. Sonoma is a place Michael and I have enjoyed a lot of success at in the past, so hopefully that brings us good momentum. On top of that, who doesn’t love wine country? Dinan and Foley finished third in last year’s GT World Challenge America Pro Cup drivers’ standings, with a win from pole position at Road America, and a total of seven podium finishes from eleven starts.
