Martin Lewis falls silent and hammers his desk in rage on This Morning as energy crisis leaves him lost for words
MARTIN Lewis fell silent on This Morning today when asked whether people will freeze this winter.
The money-saving expert had been speaking out about the “devastating” energy crisis which will see prices ratchet up this year.
Martin hammered his desk as he spoke at his frustration at feeling he was unable to provide answers for people.
But he was uncharacteristically lost for words when asked about the horrifying prospect of people being unable to afford their bills this winter.
He said “panic and anxiety” were sweeping the country as people face the shocking choice between heating and eating.
Martin, 49, said: “I would challenge any politician to have my mailbag. It is desperate.

“I sit with my head in my hands at my desk time and time again and I read a message with frustration.”
At that, he banged the desk in front of him in his home office, leaving the camera wobbling.
He added: “I don’t have an answer. When you’re on the lowest income, the help out there is not enough. There is no way to balance your books.”
This Morning‘s Philip Schofield started the debate by asking: “Martin, if we have a harsh winter, if that happens to be particularly harsh then people won’t be able to afford to heat their houses.

“Already there are a great many people who are choosing between heating and eating but on top of these huge price increases. A potential cold winter could be utterly catastrophic.”
Martin did not reply for several seconds before adding: “Yes… I haven’t got much more to say. It’s devastating.”
He added: “I was presenting Good Morning Britain yesterday and I said to Dominic Raab, who is the deputy prime minister.
“They’re saying we don’t know what happening in October. Well, I think we do. The October price cap is based on wholesale energy rates from the beginning of February till the end of the July.

“We’ve got two months of very high prices bagged into the algorithm.”
He added: “We know it’s going up in October. The exact rate we don’t know.”
Millions of Brits will see their energy bills soar by a record £693 a year when the new price cap comes in tomorrow.
The rise, which will begin on April 1, will take the average household bill to £1,971 a year.
